lundi 31 août 2015

Hi everyone..

This is literally my first post on a forum like this.
Basically I'm in desperate need of advice, I've suffered from acne for 4 years, after the birth of my son. It was super bad, its been super bad for virtually 4 years, and now, my acne has virtually gone YAY!!! but not so yay asy nose is ALWAYS red!!! It looks oily and shiny but as soon as I put makeup on it goes dry!!! I also get little tiny spots on my nose too... I realise I've had a slight pink nose for years but the redness is really bad! My partner says that I've always had a slight red nose but to me since my acne has cleared up I notice it so much more! I don't have sore eyes, I haven't got the redness anywhere else on my face, but my nose isnt sore, but I'm pretty sure this is rosacea.... I'm getting married in 6 months so I'm guessing I'm just hoping for a miracle.

Background on me, I've just turned 25, not over weight, eat generally well, I take good care of my skin, and no one in my family suffer from rosacea, except my mum who has some little veiny redness on her cheeks...

So any help would be hugely appreciated. This red nose is getting me down!!!!

Eliminating sugar and cars has no effect - what's going on?

Hi all,
To cut a long story as short as possible, I've had Rosacea for about ten years and have tried the usual topical treatments/antibiotics with no improvement at all. My research, particularly reading on this site, has led me to believe that food is my major trigger, although cold weather is also a factor for me.

Oddly though I seem to be the opposite of almost everyone else. I have tried variations of the paleo diet, Gaps diet and other low carbohydrate diets without success, in fact they seem to make things worse for me. When I am not eating carbs I flush all the time, increasing meat intake causes crippling gut pain and extreme flushing. I also loose weight dramatically quickly when I stop eating carbs, and as I am already underweight and cannot gain weight no matter what I try this sort of diet is no longer and options for me.

Really bizarrely I can almost guarantee a clear, pale skin day by eating nothing but refined sugars the day before (not that I do this often because I know it's not good for me!). Another thing that seems to provide relief from flushing is not sleeping. The less I eat the better my skin seems to be generally.

I know none of this makes sense and I am starting to wonder if I really even have rosacea. My best guess is that I have some form of very disturbed gut function, but I do not know the source of this. I also have abdominal pain that worsens greatly when I eat meat/fish and tomatoes, and an anxiety disorder (I do not know if this developed due to my skin problems or pre-existed them). I have never really had good skin since puberty, having acne in my teens, a brief period of relatively clear skin after antibiotic treatment in my early twenties then the onset of Rosacea in my mid twenties.

Can anyone shed some light on what might be going on with me? Do I really even have Rosacea or could some other condition be the root of my flushing? I was never checked for anything else when my doctor diagnosed Rosacea, and now they are reluctant to consider it could be something else. Does anyone have any clue why the Rosacea diet that seems to work well for others doesn't work for me? I am at a loss and really feeling quite sad at the moment. Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Dr Peter Crouch

Anyone else find it almost impossible to get in contact with this Doctor?

I have left numerous emails, phoned the number to the clinic which advises to make a booking via the online system. I don't want to make a booking just yet, I want to discuss my options re logistics, prices, scheduling before that.

Has anyone got his email they can pm me?

Thank you Graham.

Rosacea and kissing

dimanche 30 août 2015

Hi,

This may seem sort of funny, but...does anyone else have problems with their face after kissing/making out with their significant other? My face is usually blotchy after, a sort of mix of a flareup and rash. My chin is the worst but really I am concerned with my cheeks cause of my rosacea.

I don't know how to address this? Have other people found ways around this? Obviously I want to keep kissing but my face often looks AWFUL after.

Is Soolantra Available In Germany?

I have already been told by one German member of this forum that Soolantra has been available since June in Germany. I' wont be far from the German borders next week but I would like to be 100% sure. So my question is to any other German members is Soolantra available to buy in Apotheka throughout Germany?

Cynosure elite

Has anyone tried the cynosure elite as a laser treatment? I want to get rid of some broken capillaries and redness and this laser seems good. It combines ipl with yag laser from what I understand (i could be wrong).

I'm really intrested in having a few sessions with this and would love to get feedback from people who have tried it? The lack of reviews and articles about it on this website worries me though.

Update: Flushing and burning still much better. Left with super sensitive skin.

samedi 29 août 2015

I've posted before about SSRI's helping my post accutane flushing 90%. In addition to multiple v-beam treatments, they have pretty much let me lead a normal flush free life. From the years of flushing I'm left with patchy skin that flakes and is oily and is so sensitive that I can only use water on it. Does anyone have any treatment suggestions? I'm guessing maybe there is some seb derm going on, but unfortunately I'm not sure what to do because the skin is so sensitive to topicals.

I've used finacea in the past and it helps with the flushing and redness but borders a fine line between helping and being an irritant.

Help! Worst flushing in 4 years, from vitamin D?!?

Hi everyone,

I finally got brave enough to try vitamin d, 1000 IU tablet but I've been flushed so bad like I've never flushed before in the past few days I'm strongly suspecting the vitamin d (mixed with some rebound flushing from trying to cool it down and also some hormonal flushing, so a jumbled mess). Anyway, when will it stop?! I took 1000 IU with dinner Thursday night and then 500 IU yesterday afternoon. Could this really be "too much"?!? Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Is anyone on these boards a school teacher?

It's bad enough that I still have pimples/clogged pores/oily skin at 24, but I cannot imagine being in a classroom, under the gaze of all your students, and having a flushing episode. My career path is taking me towards becoming a teacher, but the classroom is where I have most of my flushing problems, especially in the winter when the heat is on. I have realized that this is usually caused by anxiety, or when I become slightly embarrassed, even from the smallest things like a teacher asking me to expand my answer. Whenever I flush in class it usually lasts until I leave. This one time though, I was in an extremely hot classroom and my face felt a little hot, but I was comfortably warm, not flushed. I think this is because I knew some of the people and found myself not worrying. Also, I don't flush during my summer classes because of the A/C I guess, and I find that my classroom confidence skyrockets. I've had the whole class cracking up multiple times and answer lots of questions. In the winter I cower in the back with my burning face.

I'm just wondering if there is anyone else out there that deals with the classroom environment and flushing? I'm thinking of trying out clonidine or something if I can't get my warm room flushing under control. Getting a different career isn't really an option either, as I only have one year of college left.

Does Soolantra Success =Tougher Skin

I'd like to hear from all those who have had success with Soolantra. How has it changed the health of the skin? Do you find it easier to wash the face with products that may have caused problems in the past? Do you find that you can eat pretty much anything now? What about physical exertion? What about sunbathing? I guess what I'm really asking is if people could list what triggered pap/pus eruptions in the past that don't do so anymore and how much more durable is the facial skin now.f course there may be some of you who have had success but find that they still need to avoid triggers and I'd like to hear from you also.

Myth about Caffeine (specifically coffee and tea)

A video posted by the National Rosacea Society website talks about whether coffee and tea are triggers for our Rosacea. I do drink coffee still. In fact, when I was first diagnosed back in December of 2014, when I drank a hot cup of coffee, I did flush big time so I gave up coffee. However, as I did more research on the matter, I found out that when I drink coffee at a lukewarm temperature, I did not flush. In fact, nothing happened to my Rosacea face. So for me, there is alot of truth to the video on youtube posted by the NRS. And I still drink coffee --- at lukewarm temperature. So if you gave up coffee or tea because of your Rosacea, try drinking it lukewarm and see what happens. Everyone's condition is different with so many varying triggers, but if you gave up coffee because you were drinking it hot and it aggravated your skin, let it cool or add a few ice cubes like I do to cool it down and relax and enjoy that cup of coffee. Just thought I would share my own experience.

Rosacea + Makeup Choices

Hi All,

For those who are able to wear make up to help cover the redness from rosacea. Any suggestions on what makeup works well. I have been hearing that mineral powders work best but my skin is much too dry to wear any loose powder but perhaps mineral liquid foundations? Jane Iredale is the only brand that I can think of that a lot of people talk about. Any one else have any other suggestions?

Thank you!

Rosacea Newbie - Just Diagnosed

Hi All,

A quick intro - I've been having issues with flushing for a couple years now, never thinking much about it until this past year my cheeks start to stay pink for longer periods of time and the pores around the same area also started growing and feeling altogether patchy. At first I just told myself it was an irritation or allergies until I couldn't help but search for my symptoms online. Rosacea was the first search result and my just heart sank. I tried to show/tell my friends family but they thought I was being ridiculous. I've always had great skin so they couldn't really see any deviation of the minor changes that I happened to see. I finally went to see the dermatologist and and she confirmed that I have rosacea + melasma + acne (unrelated to the rosacea). She didn't seem to be very concerned because she said mine is pretty mild. Mild redness, enlarging of pores but no pustules (as of yet). She prescribed me metrogel for the rosacea, epiduo for the acne, and over the counter hydroquinone at 2%.

My question for those who have more experience:

1. ) What is an alternative topical cream I can ask my doctor to prescribe instead of metrogel to calm the inflammation and redness?
2.) Does anyone else have rosacea and melasma at the same time (and possibly in the same exact area?)
3.) Can someone with rosacea really use hydroquinone? I feel like with our already sensitive skin, maybe it's not a good idea?
4.) Any athletes or runners who have been able to work out without causing too much of a problem with rosacea??

Any comments/encouragements are appreciated. I feel so discouraged and down with just knowing I have rosacea. Just learning how to first accept and deal with it. I don't know anyone that has rosacea so I feel sort of lost!

Long term steroid cream use

Looking for help for my husband. He was put on alphaderm cream for psoriasis on his face and used it for nearly 20 years. This has caused real damage to his face, he suffers with really painful flare ups across his nose, cheeks and chin area. His new G.P prescribed balneum cream, dermol and oxytetracycline 250mg tablets. He has been on these for over 2 years but they don't seem to be helping now.
Can anyone suggest anything as anything scented irritates his face really bad, even other people wearing perfume and fabric softens on his clothes. He's getting quite desperate and has lost faith in G.Ps.
Thanks

How to change diet when always red (what is "flushing"?)

Hi everyone,

I'm 30yo. Had rosecea for few years now on my nose. My nose is ALWAYS really greasy and red. My sebum is in overdrive all day and all night. I wake up in the morning and have to wipe the grease from my nose. The only time my nose isn't really oily is straight after a shower. My pores are obviously inflamed & i have heaps of blackheads (eeww).

I'm trying to look at diet but here's the issue. When people talk about diets online it seems like they say that certain foods make them "flush". So naturally you keep a diary and when this happens you note it and cut it out of your diet, fairly straight-forward.

But when people say they "flush" does that mean they weren't red for a period and then suddenly they are?
Or does it mean they were red and now it's worse?
Or both?

My issue is normal foods don't tend to make a difference. I'm just always red & greasy. How am I supposed to know what to cut out when there's never any real difference? Sure certain things do make it worse. Classics triggers like alcohol, humidity, lack of sleep, junk food. They're obvious.

But regular food doesn't seem to change anything for good or worse. Im just always red and greasy. Does that mean im always "flushed". How am I supposed to know whether dairy is good or bad? or whether berries make a difference? should i be eating bananas? etc. When there's never any change?

It's very frustrating. Any help appreciated :)

Rosacea at 14 (NEED HELP QUICK)

I found out that I have rosacea today. It started not long ago when I was using acne medication around my face, and I used way too much on it. Eventually the skin started getting irritated, and dead skin cells showed up. Being the stupid person that I am, I decided to pick them off because there were too many. Now I can't put anything on my face without it hurting for 10-20 minutes. Eventually I tried to look for a cure to the red face that I had gotten, and I came across the symptoms of rosacea, and it's a perfect fit. I even found a bump on my nose today, and it is definetely not just acne that did that.
Anyway, I am to assume that the overuse of that medication was huge in me finding that I have rosacea, and I've seen the stories, and I'm scared for my life. I really want to end it soon, even though I know this is only the beginning.

PLEASE HELP.

20 year old with many questions...

mardi 25 août 2015

I'm a 20 year old male that has been diagnosed with rosacea. After reading through many posts on here, I have come to realize that I am significantly younger than most rosacea-sufferers. I have yet to see somebody my age walking around with anything near my caliber of redness. My dermatologist has told me to try avoiding any triggers for it, but it is triggered by anything. Sometimes I am just sitting on my couch watching TV, and I'll go look in the mirror to discover my face is as red as a firetruck. I have tried several topical creams, including metrogel, finacea, and mirvaso, but they have not helped at all and in some cases make it worse. I have also tried laser treatments. I did 4 BBL Sciton laser sessions, and they had zero effects. I really thought that was going to at least help me but it did nothing. Beyond this I think it is worth noting that I now use sunscreen every day and moisturize with cetaphil every night. What I'm really wondering, is has anyone experienced anything similar to my rosacea case, and is there anything more at all I can do to reduce my redness?? This is taking a really bad toll on my mental health. I've pretty much spent my entire summer on my couch by myself despite many opportunities to hang out with friends and socialize. As it's gotten worse, I have had a really hard time going out in public knowing how bad my face looks. I used to attract girls pretty easily, but I can feel I look worse and my confidence has plummeted. I also used to be able to drink and my face wouldn't flush too badly (maybe sometimes if I had been drinking for many hours), but in the last couple months just one or two drinks will cause my face to flush very badly. Being a college student, this causes a lot of problems. I don't know what I'm going to do on the weekends when all of my friends are out having fun. I am desperate for answers, so if anyone can help me I would appreciate it greatly.

The two side photos attached are how my face usually looks. The straight on picture was my face after just one drink a few weeks ago.

Diagnosis problems?

Hello all.

For quite some time I was dealing with redness on my nose. It was hardly permanent, but generally ever-present in one place or the other. Let me explain how it works: I have a really oily nose, but not as many zits as I used to get as a teenager (in my early 20s now). In fact, I rarely get zits unless I drink strong coffee or something else that promotes sweating. So I often want to clean my blackheads or pop a zit to avoid a disgusting selling point of my face and therein lies the problem. Each time I press a bit harder than lightly on the nose, the area turns red for maybe 20 minutes. Similar with scratching. The area around a popped zit or an opened blackhead does not stop being red for much longer. Were I to leave my nose be, my skin would return to normal color eventually, but to make redness fully disappear would take around couple hours of not messing around with the nose at all. The small red isolated places would stay for a day or two, after that it's completely normal.

So I used to go to a dermatologist in one of the best private clinics in my country (and region) and she said it all looked fine, that everything is normal even though it appears slightly worse. She prescribed me some clindamycin and acnemycin and told me to wash my face with a facial wash. So I went through high school with that and more or less successfully still battled with redness from time to time. I also used to receive "fruit acids" therapy to better my condition. It worked favorably in the long run, I'd say.

Recently I went to laryngologist on an unrelated issue, and I had popped a zit earlier the same day thus causing a part of my nose to appear red, and she said I have rosacea and beginning stages of rhinophyma (!!!!!). My heart stopped and I was freaking out. So I went to the same dermatologist with "suspicion of rhinophyma" card signed by the laryngologist. Dermatologist looked at me, checked me out and said the same thing. That she does not see rosacea and although my nose pores are big, it appears as though it's normal. Dermatologist asked me if big noses run in the family, because mine has this oniony shape at the tip. My father has a similar shape of nose, also quite onion-like, meaty tip, but nothing abnormal. I told that to the dermatologist and she concluded that she does not see any rhinophyma. She assured me that were my nose to grow odd, they will use an electric knife to fix this. Yeah, thanks. She prescribed me akne-mycin and epiduo to deal with the leftover redness (there were still some isolated red spots after visit to laryngologist, but neligible).

So now I am at odds. The doctors from the same clinic say two different things. Dermatologist assures me that all is well. On the other hand, my nose does turn red really easily upon touch, but never on its own. Laryngologist says rhinophyma and rosacea. I should mention that my nose did not grow abnormally over the course of my teenage years, nor has it recently. The zits are rare, but the redness is still easily obtainable. No feeling accompanies the redness, no itch, no heat, no pain, nothing. The skin does not flake on its own either. I hate when doctors have conflicting diagnoses, especially when they are both good, private doctors.

Do you have any idea guys? Is this what rosacea is or acts like?

Thanks for reading and sorry for a long blogpost.

Bioderma Tolerance Plus - Worth a Try

Just wanted to give a heads up about this Moisturizer from Bioderma. For many Years (8?) now I have suffered by not finding a moisturizer that would work and not irritate my sensitive and redness-prone skin. I tried them all.. High-End and Low-End. I had actually given up and just continued using one that actually made my issues worse. My skin made me depressed and suicidial,
and i just wish for everyone going through these rosacea/sensitivity issues to not give up the hope! It took me a decade of suffering. This one is the first moisturizer one that actually works okay for my usually sensitive and reactive skin. It just feels.. normal. So definitely worth a try. I cant believe how weird it is to not be constantly depressed and worried about my skin and it all comes down to something like this. Wishing you all the best, and not give up on finding the right products <3!

Young age rosacea

Helle everyone

I am a Young guy (22), who have suffered from rosacea some years, but i wasnt diagnosed before approx a year ago. I have no p&p's at all, but I have persistent redness on my nose (the worst) and on my upper chins(beneath the eye). I do have ocular rosacea aswell, but it feels like tetracyclin (currently on) have lessened my eye symptoms a bit. Although my skin is pretty dry, it is very smooth, but my forehead though is a bit bumpy though. No bumps just kind of wavy/uneven.

I flush very easily, and thats something i have always done, but of lately (due to my sensitive skin) it have been way, way worse. I really hate my life at the moment, and unfortunaly it is affecting mé a lot psychological aswell.

Have some of you people experienced sort of the same Development of rosacea? And what kind of treatment/diet have helped you?

Best wishes and better hopes for all of us. yes:yes:

The future of Rosacea

Hey everyone, before I move on to my question I just want to give everyone my quick backstory. Basically 3 days ago my gf said to me "have you caught the sun at all on your face?" Due to the fact I hadn't been out the house much over the last week or so (certainly not long enough to get sunburnt) I was surprised at this, and after a bit of research I have self-diagnosed myself as having mild Rosacea. Not exactly ideal at 20. I am seeing the dermatologist tomorrow and will discover what I have to do next to halt or even reverse some of the condition.

Basically my question to everyone is about a cure, more so how does everyone feel about the chances of a cure in the near future (in the next 10 years)? I know some are scepticle whether there will ever be a cure, but just recently great strides have been made to curing the skin condition vitiligo, and I'm sure in the past many would have regarded that as 'incurable'. It just slightly frustrates me that with all what science can do nowadays with talk of head transplants and a slowdown of even ageing itself, not to forget the fact they plan to launch a spaceship to Mars in 2020!, that they seem unable to sort out redness on a person's face. I fully understand that as bad as Rosacea is, it's not a life-threatening disease and I don't expect all the top Scientists and doctors to treat it as a priority, however it is a very common condition (with literally millions with it) that can be detrimental to the life quality of the people that have it. Perhaps due to ignorance or wishful thinking I personally fail to believe that this is something that I will just have to accept that I will spend the rest of my life with and that there will one day be a cure. I think gene therapy is the area most likely to garner success (the popularity and development of gene therapy is increasing rapidly amongst Scientists) but that first we need to uncover just what exactly Rosacea is and what causes it (which again in 2015 is pretty surprising that we don't know the answer). So In closing, what does everyone believe that the future holds regarding Rosacea? Thanks for reading and hope to see you reply soon, Alex O :)

Zineryt is gold

Hi guys if anyone hasn't tried the topical treatment Zineryt it is amazing. I suffered for years with rosacea on my cheeks and nothing worked until my GP prescribed Zineryt. Within 2 days it was almost gone. However I have moved to Australia and it is not available here. The combination of zinc and erythromycin also isn't easy to find. My new GP has prescribed doxycycline oral antibiotics and Rolex cream today. Has anyone used this? I've used various creams and gels before and they usually make it worse. Does anyone know where I can get Zineryt shipped to OZ? I'm going home to UK for Xmas and cannot wait to get a script for it but the most I am get is 6 months at a time.

Chia Oil (Salvia Hispanica) and Peppermint Oil kill demodex quickly in vitro

As a new poster, I cannot link directly, (perhaps someone else can) but google "Impact of Salvia and Peppermint Oil" to find recent research by a Polish University. They find that demodex can be killed just as quickly with chia oil in a test tube as with tea tree oil, but of course, chia oil is much more skin friendly, and can be added to your diet. Chia Oil is available in the supermarket health foods section.

I know some posters have had good success with adding chia to their diet, but perhaps some of you would like to try chia oil on your skin and report back. I'm sorry I cannot answer any questions as I do not have rosacea.

A newbie just saying hello

dimanche 23 août 2015

Hi everyone. I've recently registered with the forum and, as the only person I know who suffers from rosacea, I have already found reading posts on the site quite reassuring.

As a child I recall heat or the slightest physical exertion resulted in my taking on the colour of a beetroot. In my teens I suffered with cystic acne / acne vulgaris which was treated with use of a UV lamp and ineffective lotions prescribed by Manchester Skin Hospital. Now retired, self-consciousness about appearance has been an issue for a very long time! Over many years, the acne vulgaris decreased - although the scars remain. Thankfully that largely petered out some years ago but, in my 40's, I was diagnosed with rosacea. Oxytetracycline helped enormously and I continued using this for several years. Yes - I know that's wrong but my general practitioner left the practice and his ex-partners just kept signing my repeat prescription requests! Finally one of them twigged and stopped the prescription - and the rosacea deteriorated again.

Optic (some say ocular) rosacea was diagnose a few years ago but really does respond well to the eyelid hygiene which I now practice daily - I don't want to experience that again! Recently I read about a product "Dermalex repair for rosacea" and started using it a few weeks ago - big mistake. Redness increased, Papules and scaling increased enormously and my face became really sore. Also, I found the smell extremely unpleasant (although my wife insisted she could not smell it). I've since reverted back to a routine of washing my face twice daily with minimal use of cleanser followed by application of E45 cream and occasionally spot application of a tiny amount of an anti-inflammatory cream - my skin is better than it has been for a long time.

In my mid 60's now, I would never have expected to be obsessed with moisturisers or reading small print on cleansing products (to avoid SLS). On the up side - as a mental health practitioner, before I retired, I once saw a very shy, self-conscious young man who avoided people because of his acne. He took one look at me and said "If you can do this job and not be bothered about looking like that, then I should have nothing to worry about" - quickest recovery I ever achieved!

Can losing weight decrease redness?

I've got mild/severe background redness and also have very bad flushing, can losing weight improve that? When your hot your body dilates blood vessels to release heat and cool you down which will make you look redder( especially in places that have a lot of blood vessels close to the surface of your skin i.e cheeks) fat acts as insulation which makes it harder for you body to lose heat so blood vessels dilate more causing you to look even redder. So in theory losing weight would decrease facial redness. Has anyone ha any experience with this? Can losing weight help with backing redness and or flushing???? And also anybody on here who has lost weight did you find just being fitter and healthier in general have any impact on redness or flushing????
Thanks

Ipl, the higher the settings the more effective?

Does using "higher setting" for ipl mean that it will be more effective or is it more finding what settings work best for you? Each ipl I have the dr increases the settings but it seems is though the higher it goes the less effect its having on reducing my redness, Im not sure if this is because I've reached a point where ipl is no longer effective on me or because I need lower setting to see the best results. And also do certain settings decrease redness when flushing and others decrease background redness?

I know this this is a broad/vague question as there are a lot of different aspects to ipl(filter, energy, how many passes...) but any knowledge or experience anybody has about what im rambling about would be really appreciated
Thanks

Rosacea Remission? Does this sound like anyone else's rosacea?

Hi everyone,

I was hoping you guys could help me come up with some ideas based on your own experiences. In my early 20s, I suffered from flushing for the first time after applying an acne lotion on my face. Before this I never flushed to anything, no typical triggers like sun, exercise, heat, alcohol etc.), and after the application I was flushing daily to almost everything. I decided to get a series of seven intense pulsed light treatments and bam no more flushing. This lasted for eight years, and during this time I had no triggers. I could tan, drink alcohol, be in the heat no problems. It made me think that I must have just been stress and that I could not have had rosacea.

However, for the past nine months I have been having a terrible time. This all started after I used a toner. I put the toner on no problems and woke up the next morning with peeling red skin and broken capillaries across my nose. Over the past months, I have had three intense pulsed light treatments that have stopped the flushing, but I still have a burning sensation on my right cheek. My skin is still very dry, and I still peel on my forehead, nose and cheek but it seems in terms of reactivity it is only on my cheek.

My question is does this sound like rosacea? My only symptom right now seems to be a burning sensation that only flares in heat. I have tried vanicream and vaseline as a moisturizer but I turn red after using and I am just so concerned that this will trigger flushing again. Do you have any recommendations for lotions? I am currently just using Cetaphil once a day. I am so hesitant to try anything else.

Thank you!

Tea tree + Manuka Honey - No more crawling feeling.....demodex?

I just recently added 1 drop of 100% tea tree oil to my honey cleansing regimen and noticed that the itchy / crawling sensation I felt on my chin went away. Would this be a sign of a demodex issue? After 1 week I had an abnormal amount of whiteheads pustules come up almost over night on my chin as well.....

I've posted my conditions here http://http://www.rosaceagroup.org/T...something-else but my condition is the following:

  • Water only washing 6 months ago after 5 yrs of benzoyle peroxide use
  • Developed small patches of seb derm, but went away after honey cleansing
  • Flaky, scaley skin on chin, mustache and eyebrows. Greasy film texture on my chin
  • Chronic pustules (almost folliculitis like) on my chin only, is not affected by diet
  • Tea tree oil immediately decreased flakiness / scaling on chin

I consistently have these white little plugs of skin on my chin, and used a tweezer to pull a few out. I immediately got a hive like pimple followed by a pus filled center (yeah gross!). I also sometimes have a sensation of wetness at the corner of my mouth and sometimes a stinging prickly feeling on my chin.

At first I thought my chin issue was seb derm, but the crawling sensation directed me towards demodex or something else. The pustules could very well be a folliculitis issue, but after not using anything harsh for 6 months I'd have thought this would have gone away.

August 15th pictures was taken 2 days after using TTO with honey. Any insight on this would be great! Thanks!

Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it?

samedi 22 août 2015

I have had these bumps on my chin for 3+ years. I have tried everything from lasers to natural anti inflammatories (honey, emu oil, etc). I use almost exclusively all natural products (makeup, toothpaste, etc.) and don't eat much gluten or dairy. Has anyone had this issue and had any luck treating it? It is only on my chin.

Oral metronidazole caused me tinnitus

My dermatologist prescribed me oral metronidazole for 15 days, which should have been followed by doxycicline for another month,as a treatment for demodex mites infestation with ocular involvement. The problem is that after 3 days of taking oral metronidazole 500x2, I developed tinnitus, mild and temporary at first, but on day 11 it became permanent,it's a constant high frequent sound in both my ears. I discontinued the medication 5 days ago,but the tinnitus doesn't go away. My dermatologist says that it happens and that it'll pass in 4 months the most and that I should continue with doxycicline 50mg daily, but I am not so sure about it,as doxycicline is already known for its ototoxicity. Moreover,I have an appointment with an otorhinolaryngologist on Monday and I am afraid that he'll suggest taking cortisone. I am very confused,I don't know what to do.

Efracea (UK version of Oracea) Reviews Please

vendredi 21 août 2015

I finally saw a dermatologist who confirmed I have rosacea. I've had it for years.
They have advised me to take Efracea 40mg, which is also called Oracea for 3 months.

I'm a little apprehensive to take antibiotics/medication because I honestly don't know if it will do more
harm than good, especially as its environmental/temperature triggers that irritate my skin.

I get the occasional small bump/spot, sometimes in little clusters, which I didn't realise was down to rosacea. I usually run my nail over them ever so gently to help speed up the healing process otherwise they can take a while to disappear.

Would be good to hear experiences from those who have taken efracea/oracea

Thanks

Avoid triggers=no life?

Hi,
I´m on vacation and I´m thinking about this problem (always red face) and how to face the issue. I have KPRF, genetic condition, so probably I´ll never see a cure. If I avoided all the triggers I would become a kind of monk without social life. Besides, promoting in my job implies public speaking and manage teams with tons of stresful situations. If I don´t react quickly my life could be a frozen life forever, without future.
How do you ovecome this situation? It is posible to reach a point where you don´t care about it?

Giving up alcohol

I've read a daily mail artical about how damaging alcohol is to your appearence and they showed photos a a women who gave up alcohol and how her facial redness was greatly reduced over a period of time. At the moment I drink quite heavily, on average 3 pints of larger a weeknight and slighter more on weekends and have been doing this for around 3 years. does anybody have any experience with facial redness improving after giving up booze? If so what sort of improvements did you see, decreased flushing or background redness reduced??? I definitely need to give up booze, or at least cut down a lot and the idea that my facial redness might improve if I do so would defiantly give me some motivation to dot it.
Thanks.

I'm stuck

I'm 19 severely depressed, half way homeless, and stuck. I can't work, I can't meet new people, I can't talk to girls and the anxiety I constantly feel makes me extremely uncomfortable all the time. I've given up trying to look good as it really doesn't matter if I dress up and get a hair cut when my appearance is ruined my bright red cheeks. I got prescribed metro gel which I used for a week then stopped cause it was making my face redder and more broken out. I've been drinking heavily recently cause it makes me not care. I feel like there's nothing I can do to make myself feel better for the long term . I can't afford to spend thousands on bullshit expensive medications or lazer therapy and when a bottle of booze is 15 bucks I just say fuck it. This disease has turned me into drug addict plain and simple. I think about killing myself probably once a week. It's a terrible feeling knowing that I have absolutely no control over my life and the way I feel. I just want to know how do people cope with this disease in a healthy way?

Needing advice

Hi,

First of all, i'm not native english so you will probably find a lot of gramatical errors in this post. I'm sorry for that.
I've been reading this forum for about two years and i think i've leraned a lot about this condition during this time. Yet that hasn't reflected in my skin since everithing i tryied didnt work out as i expected.

I'm a 25 years old men from Lisbon (Portugal). My skin problems strated when i was 18 with acne. And even though it was not severe it would let my face with a lot red marks. To treat those marks i underwent a lot of procedures like peelings, CO2 Lasers, Carbon dioxide snow and finally liquid nitrogen. This last one left my cheeks depigmentated in some areas. when this happened i changed to another doctor that put me on Protopic so my skin could repigmentate. But it didn't, and after one year on Protopic i started having rosacea (mostly P&P) and Seb derm on my cheeks(At this time i was 21). After that i have seen a lot of diferent doctors and i've tried a lot of different things in order to improve my rosacea:

I tried topical metrodinazole three times in the last four years and all the times my skin reacted badly - the first time, i put it all over my cheeks and the reaction formed a crust in each of them, and so i had to took oral corticosteroids for two weeks to calm my skin down;
clarithromycin 250 mg every two days for one year;
isotretinoin 10 mg every two days for one year;
clarithromycin 500 mg every day for 30 days;
itraconazol 100 mg every day for two weeks;
i carried out a gluten free diet for more than one year;
a red meat free diet for six monthes;
the FOODMAP diet for one month.

Now i'm turnig to demodectic rosacea. I've read some studies that link protopic to a demodex infestation, since it is a immunosuppressant. The problem is that i can't find a place where to do a skin scrapping test. Should i buy Eurex in a pharmacy and try it out on my one? will my face get worst first? Is it safe?

Sorry for the long tale , thanks for reading

PS: You are free to point out any english mistake in this text, I'll appreciate it

Looking for lotion to help with dry/red skin for male

Hello,
I don't think I quite have roscacea, but I have super dry, irritated skin on my face from allergies or when I am super tired. Any moisturizing lotion just seems to aggravate it. Right now it feels like I have a sunburn and it is super dry and hurts.
Any lotion out there I can use that can help/alleviate the symptoms? Something that is for very sensitive skin.

Thanks!

Heat or cold weather

Now that we are in the middle of August and summer is almost over, I've often wondered how climates affect Rosacea. I acquired Rosacea last December and struggled like everyone else trying to find the right treatment. With watching my diet, finding out what my triggers are, finding the right medicines, and then continuing with it all, I wondered how I was going to react to the heat and sun of the summer. This past winter, with it's cold temperatures and then going into warm rooms, I got the "warm room flush" I don't know how many times. A couple of them brought on some blistering and redness.

This past summer, I struggled with finding the right sunscreen, both physical and chemical and just plain gave up. After trying I don't know how many sunscreens and then blistering and turning red from the irritations, I gave up and bought a couple floppy hats and I hate wearing hats.

But I find my flushing subsided substantially this summer and have determined, that my Rosacea skin is better in the summer than in the cold winters. When it was extremely hot, I stayed inside mild air conditioning. I avoided the sun like the plague (gave up golf and bike riding)......this summer.......and wore my floppy hat when I needed to be out in the sun for any length of time.

Just curious about my other fellow sufferers. Is wintertime worse on your skin than the summer weather? My husband and I are considering moving to warmer climate just for this reason.

Seborrheic & contact dermatitis - I finally found an amazing product that works

So I have seborrheic dermatitis (due to Malassezia) on my scalp, eyebrows, possibly eyelids and cheeks along with contact dermatitis. I am pretty much allergic to all commercial cosmetic products, they either cause an allergic reaction resulting in redness or they completely disrupt my skin barrier (the acid mantle) due to harsh preservatives. When the acid mantle is disturbed bacteria and fungi invade the skin causing an infection that results in acne.

After searching through this forum I have found an amazing product for my seb derm called Kelual DS Cream by Ducray. This cream is designed specially for sensitive skin or people suffering from contact dermatitis. I use it only 1-2 times a week on my face and my seb derm is completely gone. It is based on caprylic acid and is paraben and fragrance free. I would suggest this to anyone who suffers from contact dermatitis. It is the best product I have ever used.

Ingredients:

WATER (AQUA), CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, CYCLOMETHICONE, DICAPRYLYL ETHER, CETEARYL ALCOHOL , ACETAMIDE MEA, GLYCOLIC ACID, GUANIDINE CARBONATE, GLYCERYL STEARATE, POLYMETHYL METHACRYLATE, CETEARETH-33, CROTAMITON , GLYCYRRHETINIC ACID , PIROCTONE OLAMINE, SERENOA SERRULATA FRUIT EXTRACT, TETRASODIUM EDTA , TOCOPHEROL
Paraben-free

I also have very mild rosacea due to demodex on my cheeks so I mix pure tea tree oil with the Kelual DS Cream at around 30/70 and my skin has never looked better.

For my scalp I use Nizoral Ketoconazole 2% (the pink one) and it is the only shampoo that does not cause my scalp to break out however it is not ideal. I have just ordered MCT Oil and I will probably try adding it to the shampoo so it does not dry out my scalp so much. I'm trying an antifungal shampoo from Ducray next.

I also found a soap that does not cause contact dermatitis but it's based on palm kernel oil which completely dries out my skin. When I cleaned my ears with it I got acne in my ears. So I am thinking about making my own soap by adding MCT oil to the existing soap.

Hope this helps someone.

PS: Coconut oil made my condition much much worse which proves that my seb derm is caused by Malassezia. Thanks Tom Busby for digging up the MCT oil study.

Rosacea on chest?

Hello

I would like to ask you what do you think about this picture.
I took this photo during the stress situation I had last week. I knew that rosacea flushing affect faces but in my case it seems to be face, upper chest, shoulders and as you can see on the picture sometimes the red spots reach my stomach. I also think it is on my back but I am not 100% sure.

Lotramin or Lamisil

I have heard a lot about Lotrimin Ultra and in trying to find the UK equivalent I have seen Lamisil

Lamisil
Active Ingredient: Terbinafine
Lamisil is used for treating fungal infections of the fingernails and toenails.

However, I read a post where Tom mentioned not using the AF kind which I'm assuming is Anti Fungal.

I'm not sure if Lamisil is the equivalent and I'm also a bit confused about the AF/non AF application.

If anyone can advise, I would be grateful as I am currently sitting in an 84 F office and my face and head are crawling, just went to the chemists in desperation for an antihistamine to stop this itching, its horrendous today.

Funny enough I remember having this a couple of years ago in the humid South of France and (excuse the description) it was between the buttocks, it was the worst itching I've ever had, absolutely nothing would relieve it, not ice cubes, not cold yogurt fashioned into a sumo style bum wrap. Honestly if you don't laugh at it you'd cry. laugh:

How I cured my acne, seb derm, oily skin 100% without caring

Hi guys,

After having acne (12 years), seb derm (5 years), oily skin (don't know since when), dry skin (occasionally) I finally cured them all 100%. How? By not doing ANYTHING. And by learning not to care. At all. Seriously. While the healing of all these did not occur overnight, one thing changed immediately - I was feeling a free happy man after I stopped giving a rat's ass about such superficial problems; after I stopped looking myself in the mirror 5 times a day; after I started living without caring if I have a pimple if my face was peeling, if it felt oily or dry, or if it was hurting from a zyst, or however they call them big ones.

When did the healing happen? I have no idea. I just stopped paying attention to myself in the mirror so much. It went down pretty much like this - I was having a rough week in terms of everything - the result my face flamed with seb derm around my nose and all over my cheeks (I've never been so bad, usually it was just on the T-zone). It was itchy it was nasty - it was what AAAALLL the dermatologists called seb derm, or seborrhea (or even they don't know what exactly it is). Anyway on top of that I had it on top of that - on my scalp too. But I managed to top even that - I had acne zysts on my chin. It was bad. The worst I've ever had for the last altogether 12 years. What did I do? One thing. I decided - OK. I've been to enough dermatologists (more than 10 during the years), I have tried enough medcs (can't count them), I have tried enough diets (ANYTHING that was on the Internet I tried), so maybe it's time I stopped caring? Stop stressing about these superficial problems? Hell, if I got diagnosed with something serious tomorrow, G-d forbid, what kind of man would that make me, the one who sweats over a pimple or red skin?! And I have read enough psychiatrists' books saying it was the case with many cancer-stricken people, to say this a short while after being diagnosed - "cancer brought me back to life - I just stopped caring about meaningless stuff, and started living about the meaningful." So that day, that awful skin and everything else day I carved it as my principle "It is key to one’s well-being to draw the line between the meaningful and the meaningless and live by it." Is it meaningful that I pay attention to such trivial, superficial problems such as acne seb derm, oily skin?! Hell, no. So I stopped paying attention. It was tough. In the first few days my face was both itching and hurting from the seb derm and acne. But I noticed the less I care and pay attention, the less it was hurting and itching. This tendency kept on for the next days.

A week later my mother asked me - "What did you do? These creams you are using seem to really help. You have nothing." I didn't even know. I looked myself in the mirror - nothing. My face was clean. Literally. No acne, no seb derm. Of course I still had my small acne marks.

Now. Truth be told. Occasionally I still feel my face itch and hurt a little. (Today it's 6 months after I stopped caring) But A) I still don't care about it B) it’s normal – one does not heal their mind that quick after 12 years of paying too much attention to such bullshit and C) It's just itching and hurting occasionally - when I look myself in the mirror I have nothing.

Main point - after stopped caring I started feeling great about myself.

The reason why I am writing all this is that I wish it could help somebody.

On an unrelated note a couple of months ago I got fungi on my penile head. I’ve had that a lot too over the years. Use condoms, people! Unless it’s the one you want to have kids with. This time – same drill. No doctors, no meds. I said to myself if it doesn’t heal in a week I will just put on one of the many creams I was prescribed with before. It was itchy and spreading, even more on the second day, a lot more on the third. Still I did not pay attention. On the forth – less itching. On the fifth – nothing. All clear.

I will leave my email address in case people have questions or are looking for advices for how to stop caring. Not that I am an authority in anything – I am just sharing my story here. One thing I will not do however - indulge into any arguments. I won't. And I don’t care if you believe or not, so I will not bother with any such emails too. Here is the email - thesecretofnotcaring at gmail dot com (it's lame, I know, but “dontcare” was taken and so were most of its derivatives. So many "non-carers"! Wohoo!)

Have a great day!

Long time lurker, need some help

Hi everyone. Recently my dermatologist told me I have some rosacea. My dad gets very red sometimes when he's irate or when he's working out, but neither of my parents have skin that looks like this. They both have very even toned skin.

I think I developed this around the time I was 15 (I'm 20 now). I started swimming/not using sunscreen while using acne products, and I've thought for the longest time that the sun damage I probably incurred might have something to do with the way my skin is, but I'm not sure anymore.

I have lots of discoloration, and though it's light and easily covered with makeup, it's bothered me for quite some time, especially because I was excited to feel comfortable bare-faced when my acne got better.

Anyway, since I don't really have the time or money to get a second opinion, and since my dermatologist only seemed to bring up laser treatment when I asked him about it, I was wondering if you guys could help me get more of an idea of if this is in fact rosacea and what kind of treatments are available that (like topicals or oral medication)

I'm currently using sunscreen (spf 46) every day and have been consistent for a year. I get very minimal sun exposure. I started using BHA 2% (Paula's Choice) in the morning. I use Tazorac every night for acne/wrinkle prevention I guess. I take birth control pills and Spironolactone to keep my body completely clear of acne.

Basically my face constantly looks a little darker than my neck and the area around my mouth is white. I'm not sure if I would necessarily describe myself as red but I do get red easily an my nose is very sensitive to cold/heat. I get very red everywhere when I exercise except for the mouth area.

Some pictures that show this:

I would really appreciate anything you guys know that could help. I'm most annoyed about the white ring around my lips, and it would really help me out if anyone knows what is causing the surrounding area to be darker and what treatment options I should look into.

Thanks! Looking forward to learning from you all.

A cry for help from Romania - My story

It took me a lot of time to decide to make my story public or not. Finally I decided to share my story with the hope that I can receive medical advice from people suffering of rosacea and also my medical experience till now can be useful to those that read this blog.

My story started in 1989. For eight years between 1989 and 1997 I had dermatological treatments for seborrheic acne. For years my skin was peeled of thousands of layers with solutions containing alcohol, salicilic acid, boric acid, sulf, glicerin, talc, etc. After the peeling I had to apply on my face a cream with Eritromicin, Sulf, Ac Boric, Ihtiol, Cutaden. After 8 years of pains and frustrations my face remained very sensitive, red, very sensitive to the sun and heat. Till 2010 I had no ideea that was happening to me was having a name: rosacea. For years I was not able to stay in the sun but I had no idea what was it.

In 2010 it was for the first time prescribed to me Advantan, Metroruboril and Ruboril, Biotics, but my diagnostic put by the doctor was seborrheic dermatithis. For me was very strange to be diagnosed with seborrheic dermatithis and prescribed products for rosacea. Both dieases are chronic but they are very different in manifestations.
The second treatment was with Roselian/Rubialin, Hydraphase UV, Triderm, Detralex and Triovit.
The third treatment was with Avene Anthirougeurs, Ivatherm for sensitive cuperozic skin and Zinc.
None of the treatments worked for me. After 3 days or more I had to abandon.

My last treatment was the first time when I was diagnosed with rosacea eritematosa. The treatment prescribed was: Mirvaso gel, Klacid, Nexium, Clonidina and Zinckit.

For a year and a half my face was red and burning with chemical sensations in the skin and pains. The burning sensation was lasting for hours from one hour to 4 or 5. The hope that Mirvaso gel will work for me was in vain. Mirvaos gel did not work for me. My face was like in the third picture posted on my blog when I was applying Mirvaos gel (http://ift.tt/1UM9N8o).
Klacid and Nexium did nothing to me as I done numeros tests for bacteria, fungi and worms and all seemed ok.
The combination between Clonidina and Zinckit succeded after a few months to stop the redness and the burning sensation.

Rosacea succeded to distroy my life. It affects me pysical(it is distroing my face), psyhical( I have to take anti-depresants), financial( I lost my job and I have not worked in the last 6 years) and social( left me with no friends and no family). Owing to rosacea I gave up to my career in Finance in the Caribbean and I am prisoner in the house.

Today my face is like melting with chemical and pysical sensations in the skin that I cannot bear. I still cannot stand in the sun and heat. Left with no treatment my medical condition is not improving. I have the permanent feeling that I have a wound on my face.

My face is clean. I dont have pustules or acne. From my experience vitamin A, D2+D3, B6 tend to agravatte my rosacea as they are reducing the quantity of sebum from the skin.

I lost my hope that the dermatologists will do something good to my skin. So I asked for a facial skin transplant but I was refused because they said the transplant would mutilate me and the problem is pure dermatological.

I dont know where to go and who to ask for help. I was not even succesful to secure a job in the house. Work from home jobs are for informaticians and not for an Economist like me.

I lost my faith and hope that something can be done for me.

Dear reader of Rosacea Forum share your experience with me. I dont know that to take internally and what to apply externaly to have peace in the skin.

ROSACEA. If there's one post, make sure you read this one .

vendredi 14 août 2015

I have had rosacea all my life. I am now nearly fifty.
I first realised that it was triggered by foods and drinks that I consumed, when I was in my teens. I went to see doctors and dermatologists who didn't help. There wasn't a lot left on 'the menu' that wouldn't trigger my rosacea, from coffee, chocolate, anything with caffeine (the list is endless, so many fizzy drinks contain caffeine), red wine, beer, nearly anything red, anything that was acid based, the list goes on.
I didn't start properly researching it till a few years ago. I looked at all opinions and advice. There were too many pills to buy which seemed to work sometimes, for some people and not for others.
I concluded that it was something that reacted with my blood. I'm not overweight, but my blood pressure was always high.
My next step changed my life, and don't ever dismiss my advice until you have tried it.
I started to drink clear water. I read that it helps to thin the blood. A glass first thing in the morning and then at least another three or four glasses during the day, clear ordinary tap water.
I still tried to avoid all the normal trigger foods.
The results started to be seen within a few days. My face is now totally clear unless I get lazy with my intake of water, then it reminds me how important 'my medication' is.
The body is made up of about 65% water. It is important. My blood pressure is normal. Even warts that had been on my hand for years disappeared after a few weeks.
I'm even having some of those trigger foods and no reaction.
Just ordinary water. I can't say it is the cure for you.
Nothing to lose and everything to gain.

maybe its not rosacea? one side only, flushing, puffy

Hello!

My symptoms are a mystery to me. I would love som input from you guys. Im a 24 years old male.

2011: i was really stressed out and started develop small little bumps, little whiteheads in an area of my right cheek. This area was also very red. Within weeks this pumps was replaced with really bad cysts and pimpels. Antibiotics and topicals got it under a bit of control but still really bad. My face was very oily now. Noticed that my right side was really puffy but thought it was because of the inflammation.
2012-2013: Treated with accutane for what we thought was acne. Cleared up my cheek. My right side is swollen and puffy.
2014-2015: Have kept things under control with fiancea. I do flush sometimes in the area that initially was covered with the small bumps in 2011. Rarely get problems with pimpels except during periods of weightlifting. But I'm still swollen and puffy on mig right side, it makes my face look asymmetrical.

Anyone got any ideas about the swelling or if it could be something else than rosacea? The selling is permanent and doesn't increase or decrease during the day or different weeks. I take antihistamine and use finacea when i need. My diet is super strict, no gluten, diary ..

i have no problems what so ever on my nose or the other cheek. I understand that you can have rosacea on only one side but I'm not sure. I have also checked the dental perspective and no problems there. Would be great to hear from someone with similar case or if someone have any ideas. And for you that are in a rough time, hang in there! I hope i got through the worst part and when i now start to see the light again it really feels like i can do whatever i want.

How to get darker without sunburn?

Glad that my rosacea is now under control but the bad news is my face goes ghostly white which makes me look ill (probably because I stayed away from sun for more than half a year). I dont like this pale! People begins to make fun of me saying something like "OMG Halloween is coming?" I never feel this bad as being a fair skin asian girl :(

I really want to go under the sun to tan my skin a bit or get a healthier look. Anyone knows how to get darker without burning the skin? Please help :(

jeudi 13 août 2015

Investigators set out to find a better way to deliver medicine using a gel-like material created in the lab. The team reports that their hydrogel material was able to stick to sites of inflammation and slowly deliver medicine over time, a breakthrough that has the potential to offer a more targeted enema-based therapy for patients in the future.

Lecithin can lower cholesterol

mercredi 12 août 2015

A friend of mine mentioned today that lecithin can lower cholesterol, and here's a research article that supports the theory: http://ift.tt/1J0ZHYW Is there any risk from taking lecithin supplements?

I bought 100 gelcaps today at Sprouts for about $9 -- a non-GMO, derived from sunflowers, version of lecithin, so the price is certainly right.

Some people advise against soy-derived lecithin. I don't know if that's significant though.

Making my own insect repellent - request advice re: composition

I already know the active ingredient I want to use for my insect repellent: it's icaridin, which goes by a few other names. There is a place I think I can purchase it from neat. They're a small operation (called BiteBack Products) that sells it usually as a 20% icaridin emulsion in liquid paraffin but I believe liquid paraffin can be metabolised by Malassezia yeasts, right? I was hoping I could get advice as to what I could mix the icaridin with. Can I use emulsifiers such as cetearyl alcohol, glyceryl mono stearate and Tego Care (the three that BiteBack products usually use) to make an emulsion with e.g. water? It's not very soluble in water (8.6 g per litre). Perhaps I can mix it with MCT oil? I really just need a way to make it easier to spread a bit more thinly on my skin. Perhaps I could mix it with water and simply accept having to give it a good shake immediately before dispensing?

what is safer? accutane vs antibiotics

hello,

Male 30 yrs old here.

I have been dealing with pustular acne/rosacea/perioral dermatitis for around 12 years. So far nothing works. I have tried accutane 10 years ago (not a full course - just 3 months 40mg a day) and it only made my skin worse plus I lost my hair and my pustules are still there even worse than before. So much about my teenage "best years" Cry: .

Now everything has gone full circle and I need to decide whether I want to go back on accutane again (full course 120mg/kg) or stay with antibiotics. I am worried about accutane because it already took so much from me giving nothing in return. On the other hand I can't stay on antibiotics forever.

This crap never ends, thanks for your hints.

NIH - Increased expression of cathelicidin by direct activation of protease-activated

Increased expression of cathelicidin by direct activation of protease-activated receptor 2: possible implications on the pathogenesis of rosacea.
Yonsei Med J. 2014 Nov;55(6):1648-55
Authors: Kim JY, Kim YJ, Lim BJ, Sohn HJ, Shin D, Oh SH
Abstract
PURPOSE: Recent findings of increased cathelicidin protein and its proteolytic fragments in rosacea suggest a pathogenic role for cathelicidin in this disease. The relationship between cathelicidin and protease-activated receptor 2 (PAR-2) is therefore of interest, as PAR-2, expressed principally in keratinocytes, regulates pro-inflammatory cytokine expression in the skin. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between expression of PAR-2 and cathelicidin in rosacea and to test the effect of direct PAR-2 activation on cathelicidin expression in keratinocytes.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Samples from 40 patients with clinicopathologic diagnosis of rosacea and facial skin tissue samples from 20 patients with no specific findings or milium without inflammation were retrieved. Intensities of immunohistochemical staining for PAR-2 and cathelicidin were compared between normal and rosacea-affected skin tissues. Additionally, correlations between PAR-2 and cathelicidin staining intensities within rosacea patients were analyzed. In cultured keratinocytes, changes in PAR-2, cathelicidin, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) mRNA and protein were analyzed after treatment with PAR-2 activating peptide (AP).
RESULTS: Cathelicidin expression was significantly higher in rosacea skin tissues than in normal tissues (p

Can we lower the time limit?

I feel like I contribute a lot to this forum especially with rosacea articles, and the 180 second time limit is killing me. It makes me really reluctant to post things on this forum, or even reply, because I almost always hit that limit in between replies to different posts.

Often I want to post articles I've found in the research forum all in one go. I'm not going to sit at my computer and wait in between, I just won't post them...

As I'm trying to post this, again!!! "This forum requires that you wait 180 seconds between posts. Please try again in 43 seconds."
Can we lower the time limit?

Definition, terminology, characteristics

Hi all,

I hope this question is pertinent. Rosacea and Couprose are different?

A lot of articles, studies, treatments, talks, etc... tend to mention Rosacea subtype I when we are towards face redness (cheeks, nose), telangiectasia, etc...
but how about when we acquire diffuse red cheeks and neck, red nose and telangiectasia due to sun exposure and weather (hot summers, cold winters). Without any pimples, pustules, papules or any kind of permanent/latent inflamatory reaction in the skin. Why i say this?
Well where i work (countryside) a lot of farmers tend to present those symptoms in the face and neck and i do not think they suffer from "rosacea". They have a "clean" face but weathered one, the paler ones have more proeminent redness (sometimes really tomato like), the more taned less. Also the drinking big quantities of red wine could aggravate a bit.
My case. I was mostly a city boy until 3/4 years ago. In the second year working in my parents farm (as a viticulture and winemaker) i start developing red cheeks and nose (i used to be a moderatly pale guy) and also in the neck, but not in the forehead or chin.. Telangiectasia in nose and cheeks followed (not much visible, very tiny). I remember catching way more sun than i ever did during hot summers in the farm (600m altitude in south Europe) and harsh windy winters. I have a bit more dificulty getting taned. I remember that in the summer after catching good amounts of sun the cheeks and upper nose first got bright red and then slowly started to get taned. Curiously those parts of the face i got red after catching sun are those that started to get permanent difuse redness (neck, cheeks and upper nose). Otherwise i have a "clean" face, bit of dry skin and large pores.

Could this be called rosacea or is somekind of induced couprose/rosacea? I dont remember having rosacea cases in my family.
Now for the big question. Could IPL or KTP benefit my case? I already went to a Dr. and she advised mirvaso (im afraid!) or laser teraphy (she talked about KTP for telangiectasia and IPL for difuse redness).

Thank you!

Seb derm treatment question

Hey guys, so Im currently treating my Seb Derm/ mallasezia with nizoral and selinium sulfide. I alternate shampoos weekly and I also ocassionionally use a sulfur/ salicylic acid cream. I've been treating my seb Derm for about a week and there has been improvement. But, I have just got a break out of small papules on my cheeks and was wondering is this normal? My question is does this get worse before it gets better?

Also, should I use a moisturiser after using nizoral as the shampoo is very drying? It doesn't irritate my skin but my skin gets very dry and tight after using it. I know mallassezia love greasy moisturiser it can feed off so you understand my hesitation.

One last question. Is my skin just susceptible to this and thus I will have it for life, or is there a chance it will clear up as I get older and my oil secretions reduce? (I'm 23 btw)
