Hello all.
For quite some time I was dealing with redness on my nose. It was hardly permanent, but generally ever-present in one place or the other. Let me explain how it works: I have a really oily nose, but not as many zits as I used to get as a teenager (in my early 20s now). In fact, I rarely get zits unless I drink strong coffee or something else that promotes sweating. So I often want to clean my blackheads or pop a zit to avoid a disgusting selling point of my face and therein lies the problem. Each time I press a bit harder than lightly on the nose, the area turns red for maybe 20 minutes. Similar with scratching. The area around a popped zit or an opened blackhead does not stop being red for much longer. Were I to leave my nose be, my skin would return to normal color eventually, but to make redness fully disappear would take around couple hours of not messing around with the nose at all. The small red isolated places would stay for a day or two, after that it's completely normal.
So I used to go to a dermatologist in one of the best private clinics in my country (and region) and she said it all looked fine, that everything is normal even though it appears slightly worse. She prescribed me some clindamycin and acnemycin and told me to wash my face with a facial wash. So I went through high school with that and more or less successfully still battled with redness from time to time. I also used to receive "fruit acids" therapy to better my condition. It worked favorably in the long run, I'd say.
Recently I went to laryngologist on an unrelated issue, and I had popped a zit earlier the same day thus causing a part of my nose to appear red, and she said I have rosacea and beginning stages of rhinophyma (!!!!!). My heart stopped and I was freaking out. So I went to the same dermatologist with "suspicion of rhinophyma" card signed by the laryngologist. Dermatologist looked at me, checked me out and said the same thing. That she does not see rosacea and although my nose pores are big, it appears as though it's normal. Dermatologist asked me if big noses run in the family, because mine has this oniony shape at the tip. My father has a similar shape of nose, also quite onion-like, meaty tip, but nothing abnormal. I told that to the dermatologist and she concluded that she does not see any rhinophyma. She assured me that were my nose to grow odd, they will use an electric knife to fix this. Yeah, thanks. She prescribed me akne-mycin and epiduo to deal with the leftover redness (there were still some isolated red spots after visit to laryngologist, but neligible).
So now I am at odds. The doctors from the same clinic say two different things. Dermatologist assures me that all is well. On the other hand, my nose does turn red really easily upon touch, but never on its own. Laryngologist says rhinophyma and rosacea. I should mention that my nose did not grow abnormally over the course of my teenage years, nor has it recently. The zits are rare, but the redness is still easily obtainable. No feeling accompanies the redness, no itch, no heat, no pain, nothing. The skin does not flake on its own either. I hate when doctors have conflicting diagnoses, especially when they are both good, private doctors.
Do you have any idea guys? Is this what rosacea is or acts like?
Thanks for reading and sorry for a long blogpost.
Diagnosis problems?
