Rosacea Newbie - Just Diagnosed

jeudi 27 août 2015

Hi All,

A quick intro - I've been having issues with flushing for a couple years now, never thinking much about it until this past year my cheeks start to stay pink for longer periods of time and the pores around the same area also started growing and feeling altogether patchy. At first I just told myself it was an irritation or allergies until I couldn't help but search for my symptoms online. Rosacea was the first search result and my just heart sank. I tried to show/tell my friends family but they thought I was being ridiculous. I've always had great skin so they couldn't really see any deviation of the minor changes that I happened to see. I finally went to see the dermatologist and and she confirmed that I have rosacea + melasma + acne (unrelated to the rosacea). She didn't seem to be very concerned because she said mine is pretty mild. Mild redness, enlarging of pores but no pustules (as of yet). She prescribed me metrogel for the rosacea, epiduo for the acne, and over the counter hydroquinone at 2%.

My question for those who have more experience:

1. ) What is an alternative topical cream I can ask my doctor to prescribe instead of metrogel to calm the inflammation and redness?
2.) Does anyone else have rosacea and melasma at the same time (and possibly in the same exact area?)
3.) Can someone with rosacea really use hydroquinone? I feel like with our already sensitive skin, maybe it's not a good idea?
4.) Any athletes or runners who have been able to work out without causing too much of a problem with rosacea??

Any comments/encouragements are appreciated. I feel so discouraged and down with just knowing I have rosacea. Just learning how to first accept and deal with it. I don't know anyone that has rosacea so I feel sort of lost!
