Exercise while having rosacea

Hi, I'm new to this Rosacea forum, hoping it will help me for future information, I was diagnosed with Rosacea approx 3-4 months ago, a complete nightmare, once had gorgeous looking skin, now feel ugly and want to hide my face :( so I decided to take things into my own hands, as when I saw a dermotologist didn't help at all, seen so many doctors, again no joy, so I now use Clinique, so far so good (the redness selection), now I just need to start lose weight, but I have heard exercise can cause the redness and puss spots to come back, does anyone know what the best exercise for Rosacea sufferers is please? Looking forward to answers that can help me.

Introduction

Hi I'm Ed, just saying hello. I've had facial redness for years, with little spots on my forehead that from time to time get itchy, and get a burning feeling there in the sun. I have had other health issues that are more important than the redness, so haven't worked hard at a solution.. but when I've brought it up the docs have different opinions about whether it's rosacea, which I suspect, or late onset acne.. or what.

So I'm here to do some research.. contribute what I can, pick brains of the experienced etc

I've been prescribed a topical antibiotic which has got rid of the spots after a few months daily use... but they come back. Can't remember its name but it'll be on my med records somewhere.

I'm skin type 1 - burn easily in the sun, tan slightly if I'm careful... but not on my face, have oily facial skin, blush easily and look shiny compared to everyone else in photos...
the upside (of the oiliness) is I look a lot younger than I am :)

Bye for now ... good luck in your quest for calm. smile:

Did people recover from Mirvaso long term rebound flushing & pain

samedi 26 septembre 2015

I recently developed very mild, light flushing as an adverse reaction to antibiotics that I was prescribed, but didn't need. I went to see a dermatologist a few months after the initial antibiotic trigger. She prescribed brimonidine Mirvaso (called Onreltea in Canada). She did not tell me any side effects or adverse effects. In my search for onreltea I did not find anything. It wasn't until I had adverse effects that I found others posting about mirvaso. I used Mirvaso 3 times spaced a week apart. Ever since I started using it I have been living in a nightmare of constant pain and flushing for 7 weeks. When my flushing episode ends I return to my normal pale skin with no redness. But, the intense pain never stops, it gets worse, but never goes away. It's been 4 weeks since I last used it. I have had to go on an extremely restrictive diet in order to attempt to avoid food triggers. I am losing too much weight, I only weigh 96 pounds now. I can only eat at home because I can't eat at restaurants. I have chronic, extreme pain in my nose, and nerve pain through my jaw, and sensitive painful eyes. Sometimes the pain gets so bad that I can't even walk or think. I have had to take a break from working and I am mostly home bound at this point which is very depressing. I just want to get back to the way I was before I ever used mirvaso. I want the flushing to tone down and stop. I want the constant pain in my nose and jaw to stop, I want my eyes to stop hurting. Is there any hope that I will still be able to recover from this. It has been 4 weeks. I can't imagine living my life this way. My life as I knew it is ruined at this time. My life now revolves around this chronic condition that has been brought on by mirvaso. I'm a mother as well, and my job is/was as a dance teacher and performer. I just need to know if people recovered from the long term rebound flushing (and pain).

Investigators at Children's Hospital Los Angeles have found that a common therapeutic target for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) may actually protect against intestinal inflammation by inhibiting pathogenic T-cells. This discovery, reported in the October 2015 issue of Gastroenterology, could lead to new treatment options for the 65 percent of individuals with IBD who do not respond or become resistant to anti-TNF medications.

Please note that I have

Finally I dare to ask for help from everyone, after having had all my life perfect skin was not oily but not dry, I have never had acne, or anything. Started skin gives the face to get rough, dry, open pores, occasionally red with changes in temperature then began to form a small balls that can not be exploited, and have a small hair inside, for now a year later I have a face full of holes, depressions, as if he had a large outbreak of acne.
At first I became microdermabrasion I think worsened me more. Now I have changed my dermatologist and I are dealing with retin at night and in the day with hyaluronic.
I must add that I am a woman of 50 years and I'm also a vegetarian, because the skin did not improve the dermatologist referred me to an endocrinologist who told me all kinds of analysis, and have vitamin B12 deficiency and vitamin d.
I wonder if there is someone with the same CONDITION me.

Showers and flares

I have been reading on this forum to avoid hot showers and to take luke warm showers to avoid a flare. I have been doing so even to the point of not letting the water hit my face as I have read that just pressure can cause a flare. Has anyone had an experience of taking a hot or luke warm shower with water hitting their face and immediately afterward papules or pustules or flushing occur?

U.S. version of Dr. Chu?

I've read so many great things about Dr. Chu here and his ability to help with severe flushing. I was wondering if there was a U.S. version of Dr. Chu--someone really excellent at helping to medicate or otherwise treat severe flushing? There seems to be such a consensus that Dr. Chu is one of the "best" but I haven't found a similar consensus re any U.S. doctors.

I've horrible flushing for a year now, especially bad at night when I sleep but getting worse and worse during the day. It's getting increasingly reactive and painful--seems to flare if I do anything now that even slightly raises my body temperature, and has spread to my ears, shoulders and chest recently. The burning pain is so severe I feel there must be a neurogenic component (tried gabapentin with no results). I'm nervous to try laser as I also have bad dermatitis that I've been struggling to control. I live in the Philly area but would be willing to travel anywhere to get some relief and expert advice. I've seen many derms and most seem unsure what one can really do about severe flushing. Thanks for any advice!

Soolantra (Ivermectin) Experience

Hi - I'm not so new to this website and I found it very useful over the past few years in my struggles with Rosacea. I haven't posted much, if at all, however I've started using Soolantra and as there's not a lot of info/testimonies out there I thought this may be helpful to others. Over the past 4 years since I've self-diagnosed with rosacea I've tried Metrogel, Finacia (worked wonder for about a year, then sadly stopped), Mirvaso, Doxycycline and lots of different IPL machines - some more expensive than others. The p&p have never really gone so here I am again trying another treatment. I'm on day 5 and so far my skin is definitely worse than when I first started, but it's better than day 2 and 3. Is that a good thing? Do I believe what I read that it gets worse before it gets better? I'm not so sure. If I can work out how to add photos I will do so. If anyone has been trialling this and has had positive results please let me know, especially if it was worse before it got better.

Thanks!

keratosis pilraris rubra faceii section

Hello,

I would like to make a suggestion of a sub forum for Keratosis Pilraris Rubra Faceii.

There used to be a dedicated subforum from a Keratosis Pilaris forum, but unfortunately the whole forum was discontinued.

As the symptoms are similar to Rosacea, I feel it could be useful for sufferers to post. I mistakenly thought for years I had Rosacea until a specialist informed me otherwise.

Being a long time sufferer and big computer nerd I would be happy regularly check it and reply to inquiries :)

It suddenly just came across my mind to make this request, no worries if not of course!

Thanks,

New to Rosacea

jeudi 24 septembre 2015

Hello all,

A little about me: I have been possibly diagnosed, just last week, with rosacea. I say possibly because my dermatologist stated it could also be atopic or seborrheic dermatitis, or even a fungal infection or an allergy. The derm prescribed medication via the shotgun approach, namely a fungicidal cream, anti-bacterial cream, antihistamine, and an oral antibiotic, the latter she said I would have to take for the rest of my life. No tests, other than a visual examination, were performed. So far, nothing has worked. I am very confused, and have been searching the net for answers.

My rash started suddenly, six months ago, as a small patch of scaly skin next to my right eye. Alternately itching and burning, it would come and go, then slightly expand. OTC medications did nothing. It increased in size, then spread to the other eye. Both eyes tear occasionally. My regular doctor was of little help, prescribing Bactroban and an oral antibiotic. I had severe reactions to both. It took three months just to get in to a dermatologist; I've seen her now twice (the first time atopic dermatitis was diagnosed, and Tacrolimus ointment was prescribed to no effect). The rash has settled in around my eyes, is red, slightly bumpy, and a little itchy. I am very sensitive to medication, and have been looking for a natural approach, if possible. I take no other medications.

I currently use a sulfur-based soap for face-washing, and a tea tree oil shampoo. Both help to stop the itch.

I can think of no lifestyle changes/modifications recently, except that I stopped drinking alcohol (beer and wine) just before the symptoms started. I remain alcohol-free. I am in good health otherwise, having been on a LCHF diet for the last three years which completely solved my digestion issues (acid reflux).

As nothing has worked so far, I am stumped, and don't know where to go. Hence this forum. My next derm appt. is in 8 weeks, the soonest they could make it. Dermatologists in my area are in demand and most have very long waits.

Sorry for the long-winded introduction, but I had to get that out of the way. I'm interested to know if anyone has had a similar experience. Again, I'm not sure that what I have is rosacea, and neither are my doctors. So far, the medical community has been of little help.

Regards,
DE

Mirvaso probs

Hey guys, first time poster here... Thanks for reading.

I'm a 30 year old man and have mild to moderate rosacea, diagnosed by 3 different dermatologists. Pretty much look like I've been out in the sun all day all the time. Would love to turn back the clock to just 2 or 3 years ago when there was no redness at all.

My issue: I was just prescribed mirvaso... And within 30 minutes of application I was having a bad reaction / instant and thorough flush. Feels / looks 10x worse than normal.

1. Any tips for calming this down?
2. Any alternatives to ask my next dermatologist about? Already scheduled an appointment with a new doc next week.

P.S. This is my second attempt at Mirvaso. The first attempt ended similarly, but I had some success first, for about a week... I told my dermatologist about this history this morning, and she told me to try it again and be patient with "rebounding" issues, and that such issues usually abate within a month or so. Has anybody had this experience? Should I soldier on and be patient with the initially dubious mirvaso results or should I toss the samples in the garbage and look for alternatives? She insisted this was not only the most effective treatment out there, but basically the only one.

Thanks!

guy looking for a good powder coverup that looks natural(if that is possible lol)

I realize the power makeup can offer because i've experimented with liquid, cream foundations. But they r very difficult to apply without looking like makeup, impossible for me actually.

Powdered makeup however is much easier and foolproof to apply. Menaji, a men's brand of makeup I'm currently using seems to work somewhat well. Doesn't cover everything, but still slightly dectable. Don't even mind it now its the only slight relief i've had with this difficult disease.

Are there any powder foundations that u have found look very natural and not caky? I like the dewy look but that seems like the opposite direction powder takes me. I haven't tried any primers but I hear they make a world of difference. Any help/tips on this subject are greatly appreciated.

Thank u all and stay strong!

Newbie - started as swollen lips

Hi all, I am new to this thread. I am 57 years old and I only started my full-blown rosacea in January 2015 so after reading many of these posts I consider myself lucky, I guess. About 3 years ago I started to get swollen lips. They would be swollen in the morning and then proceed to sting and burn, get crusty and peel and then settle down. I went to 2 derms for this and the second was a specialist in allergy. They did find out that I am allergic to fragrance and since then my home and my toiletries, etc. are all fragrance free. The only thing I can't find are hair products but I only use them sparingly now. My full-blown rosacea (and after reading this forum I'm sure I have ocular rosacea too) started mildly in January and got the worst when we went to Cuba in March. My mom died in January so we can attach stress to that for sure.

Questions: I am trying metro gel and have tried cortisone in the past and they all make me so dry and scaly. I, unfortunately, pick on that skin - I can't help it, I have an obsession with peeling skin. (I'm sorry for the immaturity of that for someone who is 57.) I have tried to wear gloves but cannot help myself. So, my question is does everyone believe that it is the worst thing for me to do - is it making it worse for me to pick on it.
Second, the tetracycline was working great until I tried to lessen the dose and it got a little bad so I didn't worry about it. However, I must have left it too long as now I am in a full-blown flare-up and back to the 2x2 a day tetracycline. I am also trying the metro gel for the first time. When I first tried it I found the stinging too much but after a few days that has calmed down but should it sting? Has anyone else had any experience with changing their tetracycline dosage? I'm hoping this is all it is. I did start weightlifting in the last few weeks as well, could this be causing it? I would hate to give up my exercise program.

Thanks for all the great info - really appreciate this.

Ketoconazole for Seborrhic Dermatitis, for use on face?

I have seb derm, I previously used topical corticosteroids to keep the inflammation under control. Since, TCS cause a bunch of side-effects, I gave them up altogether. I have tiny hair growth on the area(area around nose) treated with steroids. Abnormal hair growth is a known side effect of steroids. They aren't noticeable though.

I have used Ketoconazole once or twice, it's onset of action is slow compared to TCS, but it does help to reduce scaling and redness. Now, abnormal hair growth is not listed as a side-effect of Ketoconazole, but I have heard, people have used Nizoral Shampoo on scalp to treat baldness.

Now, I am worried, whether I should be using Nizoral Cream on face, I already have tiny hairs on that area, I am worried it might stimulate more hair growth.

Anyone, tried Nizoral for seb derm, can help me out here?

Hi, I have subtype 1 rosacea and the constant swelling bothers me far more than the fixed redness does. Dermaroller for permanent redness?

Hi folk's, hope ye're well :) Was wondering have any of ye in the past ever tried a dermaroller for permanent redness? For years my rosacea was worse than it is now, that's because any alcohol i drank would flare it for days after, and after time, my capillaries broke and blood seeped out causing pooling, or permanent redness which is still very visible today. I'm sure it's a Histamine intolerance, well mummy dearest has histamine issues so i'm sure genetic.

So i'm wondering have any of ye used or heard of dermarolling for permanent redness?

Regarind histamine, when i do high histamine foods, my skingets really bad, flushing, sneezing, hives, spots on nose runny nose, brain fog etc. And i'm always fatigued more after a histamine reaction . When you have a histamine attack, your body uses up a lot of cortisol, cortisol keeps histamine in check, and having high hiistamine levels wreck havoc in the body.

Not sure if redness is rosacea or sub derm

Just some background history about me: I live in Australia I have always had "rosy cheeks" as young as I remember, especially in photos of myself when I was a child (am now 22 years old). Had pretty bad acne when in my teens, went on roaccutane for about a year. It cleared my acne up really well and have not had an acne problem since. My face use to be oily (probs teenage years) now it is very dry. Hard to see in the photos, but I have very small spider veins and small red spots/marks (not raised) in the redness on my cheeks. Starting to get red bumps on the sides of my face. The dermatologist said it was very mild rosacea and there is no real treatments for it aside from avoiding triggers and cleansing properly. I have been trying to cleanse well (use avene gentle cleanser and spring water spray) was trying honevo honey but I think it has irritated my face instead of helping it. I kind of think I have sub derm too as I can scrap off gunk from my scalp (kind of thick/gooey in texture, like white flakes) Sometimes on my cheeks aswell they become very dry and you can see the skin flake off (with extra red sensitive skin underneath). Occasionally i get 1-2 small red bumps that are very painful to touch and sensitive (bumps on the side of the face arent painful to touch, the dermo said they were most likely to be sundamage). Hoping you guys can help me, been reading the forums on and off for months but want to start doing the right things so it does not become worse!!

Honevo honey-more flushing, impact of demodex mites?

Hey guys,

First time posting but I have read countless posts on this forum. I have had subtype 1 for the better part of 4 years, I am currrently using the Honevo honey product from NZ. My main problem is that I have a fairly mild case and I am worried to make it worse, so whenever I have used previous products I always stop at the first sign (or my over analysing) of it getting worse. Been on this product for a bit over a week now, I think it has made me slightly more red and I am flushing more than normal (maybe from the transition from winter to spring, as I am from Australia). I am fairly up to-date with the current theories and I am wondering that it could be getting worse (face seems more tingly, i guess itchy?) because the demodex mites are dying? Just gotta say that this forum is great! Little daunting at first with the vast amount of information, but it beats getting the awful treatments that dermatologists offer. Hoping you guys have some good advice, as I am tempted to stop using it as I have a big presentation at uni coming up and I want to be as least red/non flushing as possible.

My face is cracking!

dimanche 20 septembre 2015

Hi All,

Can anyone make any recommendations as to what is best for using on dry/cracked face skin? I am having a really bad flare up and the skin around my nose, cheeks and lips is so tight and dry that I cannot smile, eat or drink without it cracking like an eggshell. Apart from the obvious pain and discomfort it is so thoroughly humiliating and I need to find some relief asap!

Thanks in advance.

Fucidin and Folliculitis?

I was wondering if anyone had any experience using Fucidin cream?

I've been dealing with whitehead / pustules around my mouth (please see posting history for more detail) and my GP diagnosed it as folliculitis after looking at my face for less than 10 seconds. He immediately told me to use Fucidin cream 2 x a day......and that's it.

I have treated this before with benzoyle peroxide, so it is bacterial related.....however I'm pretty reluctant to just throw antibacterial topicals on my face after such a quick diagnosis. I'm not very confident that this can be cured with 7-10 days of applications either, since it does seem like a chronic condition.

If anyone has experience using this, any insight would be great! I have been using manuka honey + tea tree oil for my seb derm and it's been wonderful. But the folliculitis hasn't really responded to the natural treatment.

Ivomec- My story

I will share my experiences here for anybody who is interested.

Today is day 1.

My Ivomec arrived today. I immediately popped the rubber top off and poured enough into a shot glass for the application. Dabbed my index finger into the solution and dabbed my index finger around my entire face (my affected area is always in a butterfly pattern, but I went beyond the perimeter of affected areas in hopes of not giving those little critters anywhere to run to.)

Within 5 minutes of it being on my face I could feel a stinging sensation in the reddish areas.

I will update this thread whenever I can.

Wish me luck.

How does PPP rosacea start?

How does the p and p rosacea start? Do u notice a pimple or papule one day and then in a few days one more? Do they all come at once or is it a gradual development. How do u tell the difference between a random zit that I know most adults even get once in a while from a rosacea pimple or papule?

Just started using Mirvaso - any success stories?

samedi 19 septembre 2015

It has taken over a year since I started to investigate seriously why my skin flushes. I was told by two GPs and a "dermatologist" that I did not have rosacea because I didn't have pustules. While I was not happy being told to put make up on if I didn't like my appearance I was not certain whether I did Rosacea. Finally my GP referred me to a NHS dermatologist who told me that without a doubt I had Rosacea. Finally an answer. And a treatment. Mirvaso. Great I thought. I saw results very quickly. This is just my third day and today I could feel and see that one cheek was flushing badly (see photo) . So I googled if I could reapply etc and A LOT of negative feedback has come up about Mirvaso. Has anyone has good results with the treatment?

Rosace pretty much ruining my life.

vendredi 18 septembre 2015

Hello guys, This is the first time coming to a online forums to seek help but I dont know where else to look. Hopefully. There is somebody willing to help me if there is please god I need you.

So to start off I've been to multi dermatologist. Same run around. I get a prescription nothing ever works. All these creams lotions nothing. I know my triggers: Heat, Direct Sun, about every food, Cold, Wind, Showers, Water, any type of lotions make it flare up, pretty much everything makes it flare up. Sometimes nothing and boom it flares up FML.

Serious this plague or disease whatever it is, Is ruining my life. Im not even going there because i could write a 10 page long story on that. The biggest issue right now is it almost costing my relationship with the love of my life. Thats horrifing to me knowing that and theres nothing i can do but live with this. Ive been to multi websites saying you have to just live with this and there's no cure. Suffering from depression from this nightmare. At nights I cry till theres nothing left. Im asking anyone anyway I will listen to anything you say but please god help me. You shall be blessed.

Rosace pretty much ruining my life.

I got seb derm in April, now since July dealing with symptoms of rosacea..

So back in April I got seb derm out of NO WHERE. I diagnosed myself as I had the classic scaling on the sides of my nose. They'd burn sometimes, other times not, and occasionally would ooze if I picked at them. Most of the time there was no oozing though. But it was classic flaking, I could pick off bigger flakes and smaller ones. The seb derm came and went 5 or 6 times and still continues to come and go. Then I remember clearly after being out of town for a weekend and coming back to work that Monday July 27, I had an intense burning flush on both cheeks sitting at home after getting home from work. Since then, I've only had a handful of flushes that I felt the burning, but now (just recently), the redness has started to persist and not go away... I can see lumps of tiny pimples (almost so small you can't see them unless you look close in a mirror), but they are lumped together on the cheeks and others spread out.

This is terrible... I already went to a dermatologist on Sept. 2 and mostly described having the seb derm but asked him about my redness and he shot down rosacea right away saying I would have pimples and pustules and didn't think I should worry about that. Well now I want to go back because he did mention he'd prescribe an antibiotic if I don't see improvement but didn't want to start with that. He prescribed momesetone fuorate (Elocon) and I used it for ONE week only because I already knew of the risks using steroids on the face. That knocked out my seb derm symptoms on the sides of my nose and middle of and just above my eyebrows on my forehead. He also suggested washing my face twice a week with ketaconazole shampoo (lather it and let it sit 5 mins on face), and I do this with my normal head and shoulders shampoo on off days. I just feel like I have rosacea, I'm not denying myself. Now I don't know what to do but try a prescription antibiotic and see what happens.

I cannot pinpoint any triggers. My face always looks best right after I've woken up from the night in the morning, but seems to just progress to the redness/pimples/bumps throughout the day.

**I'm 27 (will be 28 in February) and never had acne as a teenager. I'd say my skin now is the worst it's been in my whole life. I am fair-skinned, with brown hair and blue eyes so I definitely fit the rosacea mold..

Tea Tree Oil, Little White Bumps

I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. I've been using tea tree oil for about a week, 2x per day, morning and night. I'm using jojoba oil as the carrier, and the mixture is a little less than 25% of the tea tree oil. I was using the jojoba oil previously for a moisturizer, so I only added the tea tree oil to my regimen.

Interestingly, after this week, the pores on my cheeks and nose (where rosacea/redness was the worst) have little white bumps or plugs. I have them on my forehead and chin as well, but to a lesser degree. My face is not dry and I wouldn't call it any kind of irritation or rash, either. Nor is it acne or p&p. And, actually, it seems the pores are smaller and the perpetual pinkness has faded a little--which I was surprised to see after so short a time! I hadn't expected any result after only a week. (I might also be imagining it--wishful thinking, you know).

At any rate, I wondered if anyone has experienced something similar after using the tea tree oil?

Questions about Seroxat/Paxil

Hello,

First of all, please excuse my english level. I am a french person, coming here after few searches on Google because it seems this forum car answer some of my question.

I have been under Seroxat/Paxil for 6 years, because of emotional hot flushes. When I was discussing in front of others, etc. I got red face blush: But after 1 hour or so, I had nothing. Also, at home, I was white.

Now I became more confident and wanted to stop Seroxat 3 months ago. I stopped it quite easily, but now I got another problem... I don't have any more "emotional flushes", BUT I get ALL THE DAY long a small blushing on my cheeks (more on the left one actually...). This makes me so angry... even alone at home, I have rose cheeks, and even when I wake up the morning I am not white...! If I take a shower or go outside, it's even worse... But really no more "emotional" ones.

What's that problem? Should I go again down Seroxat, even if I don't have anymore emotional flushes, but because of the blushing ? Or should I better try laser or so? And why these blushing all the day long came just after I stopped Seroxat... does Seroxat also prevents this?

I really think you may know more than my doctor, who seems to doesn't know anything about that. Looks like a very complicated problem (the difference between emotional blush and non-emotional ones, etc.)

I also want to ask you about the Seroxat all life long. Because if I take again the medicine and I see that stops my blushing, I think I will not stop again...

Thanks for your answers.

Finish your showers with two minutes of cold water to prevent '' night flushing''

jeudi 17 septembre 2015

Finishing my showers with around 2 minutes of cold water has completely taken away my daily night flushes. It is very important that the cold water goes on your entire body and not just your face. If you just spray your face , the capillaries will constrict but dilate later since your face will want to balance with your bodies temperature. If the cold water goes on your entire body cools down and your face will not even come close to a flush.

The water must be cold not cool. Its quite difficult at first but gets easy after around a week of doing it.

I also urge people to try taking cold showers during a flush or flare to stop it.

Obviously this is personal experience but I want to share what worked for since I believe it will help a lot of people.

Revisiting Vitamin D

I was just reading an article on VDR Polymorphisms (Bsm1) and Disease Risk. I believe people with Rosacea have VDR Polymorphisms (Bsm1). It says people with these VDR Polymorphisms may need higher levels of Vitamin D than normal levels. I know iDan had success with getting his Vit D levels up in the 90ng area.

Has anyone had success with their Rosacea after getting their Vitamin D levels above 70 or 80ng? I am only concerned about your Vit D levels and not how much you take per day as this can vary between people for all kinds of reasons.

I know some have had issues taking Vit D but that could be for many reasons as well.

Here is the article: http://ift.tt/1guDVFT

Less Expensive Alternative To Soolantra

mercredi 16 septembre 2015

Hello,

I hope this post finds everyone winning the battle ;]

Been using Soolantra before bed (specifically for Demodex) and find that it helps control itching (although they do migrate to the ears and hairline more) which helps me sleep better.

However, even with the manufacturer's coupon / membership, $50 per month is too steep for me at the moment (especially considering everything else that needs to be purchased.)

Does anyone have any experience / insight as to where I can locate a less expensive alternative?

Any help appreciated as I don't want to go back to not sleeping at night!

Dr Recommendation

Im looking for a good doctor that has expertise for Rosacea in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Can anyone recommend a doc?

Ive been struggling a lot lately with the progress Ive been making. My face still gets bumps and I have dry tight and red skin that is different from the rest. I cant find anything that works. My last derm put me on Triamcinolone for my cheeks and said to use it once a day. Im not an expert but using steroids for rosacea is a bad thing, right?

Im feeling lost and hopeless because I just cant seem to find the help from an understanding and knowledgeable doc.

Before and after pictures of my scalp Seb Derm after I went on vacation

The only thing I noticed cleans up my Seb Derm is a vacation. I think the redness is 100% caused by stress.

I went on vacation for 8 days and got lots of sun & swam in the ocean a lot.

before:

after:

This is about 95% cleared if not 100%.

The other side was worse. Before:

after:

You can see it healed all the way to the right better than the middle of my forehead... this was the worst side and I think if I had gone another week on vacation, it would have been all gone 100%.

There are a few crusts in the middle of my forehead because that's actually healing the bad skin that was there.

Anyway, I have noticed other vacations I've had cleared me up 100%. I think this time I was so focused on the fact that it was gonna heal so I could show you guys that I might have messed it up. Last time I went on vacation for a week it was healed 100%. Though I'm not gonna lie, the trip wasn't 100% stress free because I was with my parents :D

By the way, during this whole week I ate EVERYTHING... pizza, fast food, crap food. you name it. dandruff persisted but redness disappeared.

This is why I keep saying that food = dandruff, stress = redness.

Let me know if you guys have any questions.

Rosacea flare up

Hey all. So i'm 19 and I've had a bad case of type 1 rosacea for a while, characterised by red patches on my cheeks that a really visible. I also have eczema all over my body so :/ Both conditions would be triggered by food and as the days wore on it seemed i was becoming more intolerant to more foods. So for the past 2 months of so i've stuck strictly to bread + peanut butter (which surprisingly doesnt make me flare up although it might just be maintaining it at a low lvl), rice, tofu and bok choi. So for dinner i've had rice and tofu for a while and as you can see it's very strict. Now this works in helping me heal and after 4 days or so the redness is not so visible to the point where i can stand going out. Now the longest i've gone on this diet without flaring up was a week or so but recently i've been flaring up out of the blue, whilst on this strict 'diet'. Mum thought it could be bed bugs and breathing in the crap when i sleep so I changed the sheets, sprayed everything with anti mite spray and the morning after, another big flare up. I moved to the couch for 4 days or so and was going well until i had another flare up... I'm so puzzled as to what it could be and i'm pretty sure it's not me going out because, as it is, i barely go out with this kind of condition, only to uni 2 days a week... What else could it be? So sick of this as it's hard to make plans with friends when flaring up is sporadic

Difference between flushing and blushing and how to live with this

i have read so many posts and members may say they are a flusher or blusher or both and I wondered what the difference is. Also I noted that some members do not seem as anxious or desperate as others and seem to have a more relaxed philosophical attitude and still partake in life. Unfortunately I have fallen into the panic/anxious mode group and have become reclusive and feel paralyzed by this. The fear and uncertainty make me jittery all the time and totally unproductive. At 5' 4" my weight has dropped to 93 lbs and I eat a lot . It is nervous energy I'm sure. My whole day and every thought revolve around this and what to do to solve it. I just want to escape. I am seeing my doctor today as I have begun having intense panic attacks. Any advice from those who have learned how to be more chill would be greatly appreciated . Most the time lately I feel like jumping off a cliff

What has worked for your ocular rosacea?! HELP!!!!!

Anyone know what i have?

Hello everyone

I have suffered from annoying skin for a couple of years now. I have always had very fair skin, but my redness have increased over the last years and my flushings have been way more severe (and easy triggered). My doctors dont know what it is, but keeps telling me that it is not rosacea. My general problem is permanent redness on nose and around it (chin), burning dry eyes and bumpy/acne like forehead. Sometimes it is better, but in the matter of a split second i can feel the burning coming. The same goes for my eyes. I have attached some photos beneath, and i really hope that some of you can give me some kind of clue about my problem.

I have developped a lot of dandruff on both skalp, beard (noticed when shaving) and in my eyebrows, but it doesnt really itch or anything. Could it be a sign on seb derm?

This site needs a health warning!

dimanche 13 septembre 2015

I've decided not to use or visit this forum again. As this is only my 3rd post on The Rosacea Forum I know I'm not going to be missed! I want to explain why I will not be visiting here again. Firstly a relatively minor irritation - spam. Other forums I use have a zero tolerance to spam - the offending post is deleted by the site moderators and the offenders blocked from the site. It is all very well sticking a note on a post that someone is "banned from the site" but their post is still there and "Anyone here used a salux cloth" still features on the Forum index page. The medic running a clinic in Chicago "Charming Skin Med Spa" still advertises his service through this forum. I could go on!

I am sure there are people who have benefited from this forum and good luck to them, but I fear that there are gullible people duped into trying treatments and other strategies which are, at best, time and money wasting, or worse, potentially liable to exacerbate their condition or even cause serious physical damage. This is what bothers me most - this forum should come with a health warning.

Greenhorn here aka Newbie

Hello, first I just want to say Thank you to the creator of this forum and the moderators and all the contributing members. I have also been reading posts for awhile and have finally signed on. The posts here have helped me when I was so depressed and just wanted to give up, literally. After reading others experiences has given me hope and I know I need to fight this.

I'm 47 female and have developed SD, roseacea and ocular rosacea-(very scary). Also having hair loss and folliculitis which I have never had in my life and having allergies. So I really believe and know it is demodex as the only thing that helps is tto, permethrin or ivermectin but did not get rid of it. The doctors I have been to are not really understanding of the demodex. It was my GP that prescribed the ivermectin. Crazy, I just don't understand. After reading the forums and I am going to ask for Soolantra because it probably needs a long term approach, which I am sure they have never heard of or prescribed before. What is really strange is when I used the permethrin or ivermectin it took away the SD and rosacea ocular problems(of course it came back). This is very strange indeed.

Thank you for adding me and for listening.

Rosacea AFTER Going Vegan

I thought I would post about this since I haven't had any luck finding anyone else in my situation, in fact, most searches containing "rosacea" and "vegan" are of success stories.

My story:

I am a 39 y/o female, fair & oily skinned, no family history of rosacea, no prior skin issues.

April 2015 I decided to adopt the vegan lifestyle. Two weeks after the change in diet my face became red, rough, bumpy, with very dry patches (flaking & peeling), and what I would have described as tiny "whiteheads" began to appear on my cheeks. I thought it was acne due to my new eating habits.

August 2015 I see a dermatologist who diagnoses me with rosacea, although, she didn't give me a type. I assume I am type-2 from what I've read. I was prescribed Metrocream & Acticlate. The tiny "whiteheads" have disappeared, but I've shown no other signs of improvement.

Some days my face looks and feels as if sunburned. I have to keep the A/C low and a fan blowing on my face to be comfortable while the rest of my body shivers. My face usually looks its best first thing in the morning, for whatever reason, which also seems to be contrary to others' experiences I've read. It's not itchy at all, but it is on the sensitive side especially around the apples of my cheeks.

As for "triggers", they've either always been present in my life or never have. I'm a Florida native so sunshine, heat, and humidity are normal daily life. I have not introduced any new foods into my diet, only eliminated animal products. My skincare routine has been Dove soap for decades, that's it, no makeup. I've suffered from depression and anxiety basically my entire life, officially diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder as a teenager, so stress is normal daily life for me as well. (Side note: No changes in medications either.)

Literally the only change in my life was no longer eating animal products.

Researching rosacea has been frustrating. While I believe the dermatologist's diagnosis and I certainly seem to fit the symptoms nothing else has made any sense. It's lead me to believe my rosacea is a manifestation of something else.

I've only discovered two items of research that may pertain to my case. One is that the naturally occurring hormones in milk have been linked to oil production -- my face went from historically very oily to parched when I removed dairy from my diet. Two is what I've read about gut health and the skin. While I do not meet the symptoms of IBS or SIBO, I have had other long term digestion issues that can be symptomatic of excessive bad bacteria.

I haven't had the opportunity yet to try probiotics, but they are #1 on my list currently. I'm at a loss of what else to try.

It seems to me the removal of dairy was the culprit, though I have not experimented with reintroducing it into my diet. I find that except for my skin (ironically) veganism agrees with me. It's almost a cruel joke. I'd read so many reports of substantially improved skin from vegans only to have rosacea happen.

Please let me know if anyone has experienced or knows of other seemingly unique cases such as mine. I'm perpetually boggled that leading a healthier lifestyle has caused this skin affliction.

Dry mouth anyone?

I noticed that my mouth gets dry everytime I flush. While looking for the connections between those two I found an interesting fact that dry mouth (xerostomia) is a symptom of GERD. I was diagnosed with biliary reflux which is different from GERD but gives similar effects so bingo - another proof that flushing is caused by stomach problems.

But anyway. This all looks very clear now. Reflux damages our sweat glands which leads to the dry mouth and when our bodies want to get rid of excess heat it does it by dilation of vascularity since the sweat glands don't work correctly.

What do you think about that? grin:

Do lasers address edema/swelling?

vendredi 11 septembre 2015

Hi, I'm wondering if lasers for rosacea (I have subtype 1) address the edema? I'm 20 years old and for a year now I have had moderately severe facial edema as a consequence of my rosacea/dilated blood vessels and it's driving me crazy. Without rosacea/edema I have the exact same face shape as Angelina Jolie- very angular, defined jawline and prominent cheekbones. Now my face is roundish, wide and asymmetrical. Unfortunately, it's COMPLETELY changed the way I look. Cry: Quite honestly, I don't even mind having severe redness as that can at least be covered with makeup, no problem...but the edema completely kills my confidence. I guess I'm a bit confused as to what to mechanism of action of lasers are, even after researching like crazy. Do the blood vessels in a way constrict, therefore less fluid is leaking out as a result, lessening edema?

New and need help

Hello there,
For the past 6 months my face has changed into something I have never seen. I am 37 and have slightly red apples of my cheeks my whole life. I had the normal amount of breakouts when I was going through puberty and some mild adult acne but only around my time of the month. Now though, my face is bright red, painful (feels like a chemical peel gone bad) and has small bumps some of those bumps are acne. I eat well, not a lot of processed foods, I have used Raw unfiltered honey as a face wash for about 4 years and I use organic grape-seed oil as a moisturizer. I now wear no make up, but before this problem I would wear a tinted moisturizer and mineral powder. I am at a loss, I am embarrassed and frustrated.
I tried to add pictures but can't figure out how.blush:

How to use Apple Cider Vinegar?

jeudi 10 septembre 2015

Hi everyone :)

I read that the ACV can be very succesful at clearing face and scalp from SD and I want to give it a try but I simply don't know how to "use" it.
Should I drink it? Or maybe apply it straight in my face? And also, some people says that I should mix it with water, and other says that I shouldn't.

Can someone give me advice how to use it? And can the ACV get rid of symptoms on face as well as on scalp?

Newbie with strange case of Rosacea

Hi there, my name is Marissa and I've been lurking on this board for a while now but never posted. I'm 20 years old and have always had extremely pale skin with absolutely no redness. A year ago I abruptly withdrew from SSRI antidepressants (Zoloft) and woke up during a horrible withdrawal around the fourth day to find my pale skin was bright red with enlarged capillaries everywhere .Not only that but I had moderately severe facial edema. I literally didnt recognize myself in the mirror. I saw a derm who officially diagnosed me with subtype 1 rosacea and gave me some useless topicals that didn't work. I have
read stories of other people also abruptly withdrawing from SSRI's suffering from the onset of rosacea among a long list of other persistent medical problems months to years after stopping (I won't get into those), but no advice on what to do about it. I'm super frustrated and confused because it has completely changed my face shape to the point where I don't look like the same person. Whats strange is that two-three cups off coffee alleviates 60-75% of the redness, yet Ive read mostly the opposite that caffeine worsens rosacea. There was actually a three day period six months ago where I was drinking a lot of coffee and my rosacea was in complete remission and my edema was gone. The problem with this is that I always get rebound redness a day or two later where its even worse
I know this is a long rant but my question is does anyone else on here have a story even remotely similar to mine and any advice? I'm really just shocked and angry that this happened to me. It goes beyond just having some redness, I don't even look like the same person anymore due to the edema. I have a naturally very angular face, defined jawline and prominent cheekbones. Now its more roundish, wide and asymmetrical.
I also have burning and stinging that drives me crazy. I can't afford IPL but I am so sad and desperate yet there seems to be mixed reviews on long term results. I'm just lost.

Yag test patch blister

Anyone else have a small pencil tip sized blister after this? The nurse told me it's normal and that the test patch is a way of gauging what setting is right for my skin. I'm a bit concerned now and don't know If I should go ahead with the treatment. I had a test patch on my nose and cheek and only an area on the cheeks bone formed a small blister. Anyone have any experience with this??

Do i have rosacea??

Im going to the dermatologist soon so I'll know for sure, but just wanted to know what other people who have it thought :)
I've had the redness for 6 years I'm 20 now, but recently my skins got really blotchy looking and I'm getting a lot of itchy tiny spots mainly on my cheeks where the red is, they make the texture look quite rough, my skins also really sensitive and its oily but feels really tight and dry. My face flushes up super easily too and i can feel my skin on my cheeks burning up (because thats where the redness is ) ,very uncomfortable
the picture shows how red my face goes when i flush up, and the other one just shows more of the blotchy/bumpiness to it

New Member -- And a little lost!

mercredi 9 septembre 2015

I just wanted to say hello! I've actually lurked for awhile, as my Google searches on Rosacea often point me here. I finally decided to register and post, primarily because I simply can't stand this bleepity-bleep condition and while my family/friends/doctor are all very nice, they really don't quite *get* it. Even my dermatologist isn't all that helpful! Ergo, I decided to register, say hello and offer a thank you for all the information shared here.

I'm in my mid-30's, and I don't know exactly when my Rosacea started. I can say I've had sub derm since middle/high school. Sometime in my mid-20s, I think the redness started, and it has progressed now to my cheeks, nose, chin and chest. It's always there, and then worse, of course, when I flush. I really, really hate people asking me if I've spent time in the sun! Now I'm noticing little veins in my cheeks. Argh! I'm of Irish descent, and my grandfather and mother both had/have Rosacea, quite severe in later life. I'm Subtype 1 & 2, though 2 I can directly link to hormone fluctuations. I have enlarged pores on my nose and cheeks, almost as if they were swollen. My dermatologist prescribed a few different things, some sulfur cleanser something or other with a green tint (I forgot, it was awhile back), Metrogel or cream (again, awhile back), as well as sulfacetamide sodium-sulfur for the sub derm. None of them worked for the Rosacea, though the sub derm was kept well under control. About 8 months ago I ran out of the sulfacetamide sodium-sulfur, and I couldn't get back into the dermatologist's office for a new prescription right away and they wouldn't refill without a visit. Time went by and low and behold, I have no symptoms of the sub derm anymore. Cool, no? Unfortunately, the Rosacea never lessened while using any of those products.

So, for the last few months, I've been thinking about triggers, products, and exploring other ways to combat Rosacea. I might go back to the dermatologist soon, but I need to figure out what else is going on before I start putting prescription products all over my face. Which is why I'm here.

Heat is a big problem for me. I've stopped taking hot showers, I dry my hair on the cold/warm hair dryer setting, I drink my coffee/tea lukewarm, and I drink ice water when I feel flushed. I try to regulate my body temperature as best I can, though it often seems my torso is hot and my feet/hands are cold. Neither is comfortable! Abrasion is a flushing trigger too, so I pat my face dry, apply any facial products and makeup lightly. Other known flushing triggers are some spicy foods (but not all), some beer and wine (but not all), and sun exposure (though that only is a problem when I get hot). I just started a food diary, because I notice that I often flush after I eat, but not every time, so I know some kind of food is a trigger--I just don't know what. Weirdly, I think bananas might a trigger!

At this point, I use Dove unscented bar soap on my face (just a trial, as someone told me it was mild?), and Jojoba oil as a moisturizer. So far the oil makes my skin super soft and has minimized wrinkles (yay!), but I'm not noticing a difference on the redness. I do use makeup, but I try to use mineral based or those for sensitive skin.

Basically, very long story short, I can often control the flushing and p&p, but I can never get the redness to go away. Argh again! Now I'm thinking about probiotics, going gluten free or dairy free, and anything else I can think of. I just don't know what to try first/next. There is so much information out there, and yet each person's results are different. So I'm just going to go by trial and error and see what happens...

Psychological effects of rosacea

Hi everyone,

Relative newbie here and I'd just like to say this forum is amazing for information and support for others. I was wondering whether anyone was interested in sharing their stories/experiences of living with rosacea and the effects it's had?

I ask because I was very badly bullied in high school because of my skin (acne bad enough to be put on Roaccutane, as it was then or Isotretinoin at age 14) and the long-term effects on my self confidence because of my skin have been devastating. I was diagnosed with something called Body Dysmorphic Disorder about a year and a half ago. For those who haven't heard of it, it's a form of OCD which involve obsessive thoughts around certain things. For me, guess what, it was my skin and the redness associated with it. I was only just diagnosed with rosacea before I was diagnosed with BDD. In a way it was a relief to know it wasn't all in my head - that yes, I did actually have red skin but the fact was it was nowhere near what I imagined it to be (i.e like a London bus!).

But the damage done both by bullying and my own thoughts is hard to live with. I've never really been in a relationship (in my mid-twenties) because I make the immediate assumption that no-one will ever be interested in a girl with red/imperfect skin (underneath the make-up) and I do find it hard to make friends and socialise easily because I imagine everyone is judging me based on my skin.

I'm currently working in the psychology field and would like to say things are getting better (through a combination of therapy, my current course, job and friends) but I realise it may take years to come to terms with having to deal with imperfect skin in a society that says we must look perfect all the time.

I was wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences or have a story they would like to share? I understand it's difficult to share but I think if I offer just some form of support to someone out there who's struggling, to know they're not on their own, it makes it worth it.

Medical.net - New molecule shows efficacy in inhibiting inflammation, preventing prem

Premature births are intimately linked with inflammation of the uterine tissue, a biological response which induces contractions and preterm labor. In their search for a mean to prevent this phenomenon and complications related to deliveries occurring before 37 weeks of gestation, researchers at CHU Sainte-Justine and University of Montreal discovered an agent that shows efficacy in inhibiting inflammation and preventing or delaying uterine contractions and premature delivery in murine models - without adversely affecting the fetus or the mother.

V-Beam Perfecta

mardi 8 septembre 2015

In recent years, I have developed several small blood vessels visible on my nose. In particular, on one side, it is quite dense and makes a patch of my nose always look "red".

From what I have read (excuse my ignorance), but this sort of condition would be best addressed with V-Beam (as opposed to say IPL).

I can't really tell from the forum if people think purpura vs. non-purpura is advised. I work in public and was planning on doing this more on a Friday, so non-purpura I assume is ok. But I don't want to have to go for like 4 treatments and there is almost no improvement.

small red round spot on forehead

Two years ago I developed a round reddish patch on my forehead and after putting a prescription strength cortisone cream on, it would go away but return several months later. I followed this routine for about two years until I was at my dermatologist for a non red spot matter. Well the red spot happened to appear when I was there-- about the size of a nickel-- and I told my derm about them and what I was doing. She said to stop the cortisone as that is the worst thing I could put on my skin and that I probably had the beginning of rosacea . She prescribed the metro gel and Oracea. Well since therapy I still get one, sometimes two red spots ranging in size from a pencil eraser to a nickel daily to every few days now instead of months like before. Sometimes they disappear in a few hours or over several days. They don't itch or burn. The second day on Oracea I developed mild facial edema and my face feels warm. I have no flushing. I have read voluminously and can find no one whose rosacea started this way or looks like this. The uncertainty is very distressing and not knowing what will happen next. Will the spots get bigger and take over my forehead and move to my cheeks and chin and will I gradually begin to flush and turn red and full of pustules and pimples? I would be grateful for any input. Is this rosacea?

Treatment of vasomotor rhinitis?

I have figured out this is what is causing my nose to drip almost constantly, but particularly during and after eating. My nose also flushes from slightest touch, and most evenings, regardless of environmental factors.

Thanks

Is it really rosacea?

lundi 7 septembre 2015

I have been diagnosed with mild Seborrheic dermatitis and Rosacea (have been to 3 Dermatologists in last few months).

Mid 30s, male, pale skin.

I have always had pink-ish cheeks (sometimes flushing) with some small blood vessels visible on nose but I didn't really mind.

I have a patch on my nose with more blood vessels visible than other areas. After getting a mild sunburn earlier this year (I think it was because of this that set off the flare), the patch got visibly redder. But what really concerns me is there are a few small "bumps" (actually quite flat) that form, get very red, come to a "head" (though nothing seems to come out) and then the skin flakes off leaving less-red skin in this area. I wouldn't be concerned if this was a one time thing but it seems to repeat every 2 weeks for probably 6 months in a row so far, often in the EXACT same spot, again and again. When it is inflamed, the blood vessels are not even visible because the entire area is red. Once it was a bit larger and I pressed near it and some clear liquid came out. I don't believe this is normal acne. Are these pustles or papules?

Even when I am in a period of less inflammation, the visible blood vessels are much more prominent than normal. I also vaguely recall this process happened in the past (also for many months or upwards to a year) and then went into "remission".

I don't know what is going on or why this is happening. Once I woke up and there were like 10 very red bumps on side of nose.

Currently on Oracea (morning), Noritate/Metrocream (nightly). I also have Rosiver/Soolantra but haven't started using it since I only started Noritate 1 week ago. I eat well, overall healthy, don't put any weird products on my face.

I am starting to think the blood vessels are what are causing it and am considering Vbeam for treatment (at least to treat the visible blood vessels which now look bad).

Newbie - mid 20's, acne and rosacea for around 15 years

Hello all!

Another newbie here. I've lurked for a while and decided to be brave and post for the first time smile: I'm in my mid-twenties and I've suffered from acne for around 15 years now (at the moment, it tends to be just around the jawline which I think is a hormonal imbalance). At some point, this developed into Rosacea (I think in my early twenties - it was hard to tell alongside the acne). I've previously been on two courses of Accutane (age 14 and 22) with no desire whatsoever to go back on it (as a very last resort I think it's good for acne but I just can't stomach the idea of the long term effects it's been known to have). I've just decided to go back to the dermatologist after being a bit disillusioned with my previous ones (they didn't seem to know how to treat the rosacea, which seems to be a common thing reading on here!)

I'm currently 2 weeks into Erythromycin tablets (2 x 500mg a day) and Finacea cream (2 x a day). I'm cautiously hopeful at the moment because I feel like there is a slight reduction in the redness and it has definitely helped the uneven skin tone and the bumps I've previously had on my face. I'm also on a dairy-free (although I'm not sure it's actually making much of a difference - it might not be a trigger for me?) and very low sugar diet. I'd like to go gluten free at some point but I was weary of starting too much all at once and not knowing what is a trigger and what isn't. If current diet goes ok, I'll start to introduce gluten free too I think.

Whew that was an essay! Anyway, hello to all! x

Anti Redness Moisturizer Free Sample

Hello,

I have been suffering from keratosis pilaris rubra faceii for two decades. It is a horrible skin condition which causes facial redness similar to rosacea, however the root cause is different.

After many years of frustration trying hundreds of supposed anti-redness moisturizers and products, I decided to create my own moisturizer based on the ingredients I noticed had a positive effect on my red skin. It has taken about a year, but I have come to a stage now where I believe I am close to my final formulation of ingredients.

I would like to offer a free sample to members here to see if it has a positive effect on their facial redness. All you would need to do in return is post a review so I get feedback of its effectiveness.

I can post the moisturizer free of charge to anywhere in the UK.

Active Ingredients:

Zinc Oxide: Whitening effect reducing redness, skin soothing, anti-septic, anti-microbial and fungicidal.

Allatoin: Skin protectant, softens skin, keratolytic, causes rapid cell regeneration and proliferation and speeds up the natural processes of the skin by increasing the water content.

Titanium Dioxide: Whitening effect reducing redness.

Inactive ingredients:

Aqua, Rice Bran Oil, Glycerine, Glycerol Mono Stearate SE, Cetyl Alcohol, Vitamin E, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin.

New intro, 42, acne rosacea

dimanche 6 septembre 2015

Hi I'm happy to be here and I have learned so much from everyone on these forums. I was diagnosed about 2 months ago with rosacea. I had battles what I thought was terrible acne for 6 months. I don't have a lot of redness mostly P & P's and I wasn't aware this was rosacea. I tried harsher cleansers, clarisonic, facial and than microdermabrasion but my face got worse and worse And my neck seemed to be sensitive and turning red and itchy. The doctor finally told me it was rosacea when I went in looking for some medicinal acne cream. I was prescribed metrogel and told to lay off the products. After much research I changed all my products head to toe to Aveeno and green beaver. I use tea tree oil as well. I take cool showers now, I've significantly reduced my alcohol intake which was already not much, and I already was gluten, dairy free and following the FOPMAP diet for IBS. I still have lots of P & P's but at least it's not out of controlling. They seem to Fade as new ones develop. I ordered some Finacea from Australia and I'm going to try that next. I'm also interested in the red light therapy. I'm leaning how to use cosmetics to cover redness and scaring. I'm frustrated but hopeful.

Does Your Seb Derm Look Like This? Pictues Inside

I've collected some threads with pictures that resemble my skin condition which I would refer to as oily seb derm. My skin is oily, red, sensitive and has large pores with flakes in them (probably sebum).

The main similarities I notice in these photos is the enlarged pore size, sometimes with obvious flakes other times the flakes aren't seem but that doesn't mean they aren't there. After the skin dries from washing the pores shrink for a time making the flakes not visible at least not for most photos.

Has anyone with this type of skin had any success? if so with what treatment?

Keratosis Pilaris Rubra Faceii Introduction

Hello, just like to introduce myself.

I have been suffering from keratosis pilaris rubra faceii for almost two decades. Its a horrible affliction, with similar facial redness to rosacea, however with a different cause.

After so many years of frustration with products that didn't work, I have been formulating and experimenting creating my own facial moisturizer for the past year. My main objective is to find the perfect mix of ingredients to both soothe and mask my erythema.

Seb Derm biofilm

jeudi 3 septembre 2015

Does anyone else have the malassezia biofilm? (coined by Tom Busby, I think)

Along with some base redness and flakiness, it is really the only problem I am still having with SD. I can see the biofilm after I have got out of the shower, especially after sweating. It is most noticeable after sweating because the sweat acts as a soap and helps remove the top layer of the skin revealing white, gunky, residue all over my cheeks, nose, nose creases and in between my eyebrows. I can run a Q-tip across these areas and wipe the buildup away but it always comes back. It's like leftover SD, a barrier that the malassezia fungus has created. No anti-fungal topicals have worked to remove this, or anything taken internally. I have a zinc pyrithione soap that makes the biofilm visble, but does not really remove it.

After changing my diet (cutting out sugar and refined carbs) I stopped getting the red, sore, burning, stinging patches of peeling skin that people usually associate with SD, but this damn biofilm and the flaky, rough, oily texture of my skin will not go away.

Anyone ever tried Sebclair/ Promiseb Cream for Seborrhoeic Dermatitis? Need Help!

Background: Never had any skin problems until 15, when i had few minor flakes around nose and eyebrows. Used mild hydrocortisone (daktakort) treated it fine, however I stupidly continued to use this same steroid cream on and off for 3 years and then every single day for the next year. Whilst it did suppress the flakes and dryness, it made my face gradually become very sensitive, red and spotty and so i thought i had developed rosacea. When i completed stopped using daktacort exactly 1 year ago, I suffered a massive rebound. It wasn't like the usual topical steroid withdrawal symptoms (red skin syndrome), instead it was just like a major seb derm flare up on my face. I started using aveeno moisturising cream and this helped massively but the SD was still very present (redness, papules, dry and greasy skin) and a few weeks ago I used the same hydrocortisone again for 5 days and my skin looked great. However when i stopped and continued just using aveeno, my skin started to react badly to the moisturiser for some reason and so I think the steroid cream has made my skin overly sensitive again despite using for only 5 days and the first time in a year. My SD is back with a vengeance (only face, not scalp). I have now officially learned my lesson haha

I came across Sebclair cream, or Promiseb as it's known outside Europe i think, and it's supposed to work similarly to hydrocortisone but it has no steroids in it and is safe to use long term like you would a moisturiser. As it's rather expensive i was wondering whether anyone else has tried it before or are there other similar treatments out there which may help.

Thanks for any replies or help,

Xifaxan cured my rosacea

mercredi 2 septembre 2015

I suddenly developed rosacea about 6 months ago. I would flush due to stress, excitement and also certain foods. A week ago I completed a 10 day treatment of Rifaximin 550mg twice a day (trade name Xifaxan). My rosacea has totally disappeared and my skin is back to normal. I read about this antibiotic on this forum and with nothing to loose, I thought I would give it a try. Fingers crossed that the amazing results continue. smile:

can anyone help me?

Hi everyone..

This is literally my first post on a forum like this.
Basically I'm in desperate need of advice, I've suffered from acne for 4 years, after the birth of my son. It was super bad, its been super bad for virtually 4 years, and now, my acne has virtually gone YAY!!! but not so yay asy nose is ALWAYS red!!! It looks oily and shiny but as soon as I put makeup on it goes dry!!! I also get little tiny spots on my nose too... I realise I've had a slight pink nose for years but the redness is really bad! My partner says that I've always had a slight red nose but to me since my acne has cleared up I notice it so much more! I don't have sore eyes, I haven't got the redness anywhere else on my face, but my nose isnt sore, but I'm pretty sure this is rosacea.... I'm getting married in 6 months so I'm guessing I'm just hoping for a miracle.

Background on me, im very fair skinned, blonde hair blue eyes and im from the uk. I've just turned 25, not over weight, eat generally well, I take good care of my skin, snd i hardly drink any alcohol. and no one in my family suffers from rosacea, except my mum who has some little veiny redness on her cheeks... But to add to this my mum has been an alcoholic for over 25 years. And I heard this can contribute towards it.

So any help would be hugely appreciated. This red nose is getting me down!!!!

Dermatologist that specializes in Rosacea on Long Island?

Just got back from the doctor and suspicious with the stuff I was just given.. Help?

So I haven't seen my doctor since December and now I feel like I just left a Car Dealership. So I have been taking Doxycycline 100mg 1nce a day for about 8 months straight. He told me to stop cold turkey and try his NEW forumula thats cheaper then the rest. It's a mix of

Ivermectin
Metronidazole and
Potassium Azelyoyl Diglycinate.

I was questioning him on it asking was it tested, does it work, and in the end he just googled in front of me this is all the new medication thats is now mixed together but cheaper at his office. He said he noticed 20% of his patients that worked really well immediatly. I figured I'll try it because i'll try anything to get Rosacea to go away.

In the end though I got him to fill my prescription of Doxycycline because last time I stopped cold turkey, my face turned bright red and purple and had cysts everywhere. I asked him if I should slowly ween off and he kind of disregarded it. What the hell should I do? I just got home and am a little baffled... He also gave me the sulfur cream to rinse my face twice a day.

New and worried

Hi everyone!

I'm currently very worried about my skin and was hoping someone can help me out. I haven't been diagnosed with rosacea but I have seen a dermatologist for acne. I've had adult acne for 10 years now and while most of it is controlled with products and diet, the skin on my nose remains difficult to manage. I have very oily skin on my T-zone, but particularly extreme on my nose. Because of this, I have enlarged pores, constant black heads and some redness around the sides and a bit on the front (nothing too jarring). I have never experienced swelling or anything, nor do I have any rough texture (I use BHA and rx retinoids regularly so the skin there is smooth, despite my crater sized pores!).

Now, the reason I'm worried is because I'm afraid I have rosacea on my nose or what seems to be the beginning stages of rhinophyma. I naturally have a rather large and thick nose that I'm self conscious of, and the enlarged reddish pores makes it worse. I'm afraid that it will turn into rhinophyma and become worst. I've tried contacting my dermatologist but he's on vacation, so I'll have to wait. I saw him earlier this year when I was getting a prescription for Retin-A and while he made sure to examine my nose, he didn't mention anything about rosacea or rhinophyma.

Does having a very oily nose, with blackheads, enlarged pores, and some redness automatically mean one has rosacea or the beginning stages of rhinophyma? I really hope not! Cry:
