So back in April I got seb derm out of NO WHERE. I diagnosed myself as I had the classic scaling on the sides of my nose. They'd burn sometimes, other times not, and occasionally would ooze if I picked at them. Most of the time there was no oozing though. But it was classic flaking, I could pick off bigger flakes and smaller ones. The seb derm came and went 5 or 6 times and still continues to come and go. Then I remember clearly after being out of town for a weekend and coming back to work that Monday July 27, I had an intense burning flush on both cheeks sitting at home after getting home from work. Since then, I've only had a handful of flushes that I felt the burning, but now (just recently), the redness has started to persist and not go away... I can see lumps of tiny pimples (almost so small you can't see them unless you look close in a mirror), but they are lumped together on the cheeks and others spread out.
This is terrible... I already went to a dermatologist on Sept. 2 and mostly described having the seb derm but asked him about my redness and he shot down rosacea right away saying I would have pimples and pustules and didn't think I should worry about that. Well now I want to go back because he did mention he'd prescribe an antibiotic if I don't see improvement but didn't want to start with that. He prescribed momesetone fuorate (Elocon) and I used it for ONE week only because I already knew of the risks using steroids on the face. That knocked out my seb derm symptoms on the sides of my nose and middle of and just above my eyebrows on my forehead. He also suggested washing my face twice a week with ketaconazole shampoo (lather it and let it sit 5 mins on face), and I do this with my normal head and shoulders shampoo on off days. I just feel like I have rosacea, I'm not denying myself. Now I don't know what to do but try a prescription antibiotic and see what happens.
I cannot pinpoint any triggers. My face always looks best right after I've woken up from the night in the morning, but seems to just progress to the redness/pimples/bumps throughout the day.
**I'm 27 (will be 28 in February) and never had acne as a teenager. I'd say my skin now is the worst it's been in my whole life. I am fair-skinned, with brown hair and blue eyes so I definitely fit the rosacea mold..
