Hi all, I am new to this thread. I am 57 years old and I only started my full-blown rosacea in January 2015 so after reading many of these posts I consider myself lucky, I guess. About 3 years ago I started to get swollen lips. They would be swollen in the morning and then proceed to sting and burn, get crusty and peel and then settle down. I went to 2 derms for this and the second was a specialist in allergy. They did find out that I am allergic to fragrance and since then my home and my toiletries, etc. are all fragrance free. The only thing I can't find are hair products but I only use them sparingly now. My full-blown rosacea (and after reading this forum I'm sure I have ocular rosacea too) started mildly in January and got the worst when we went to Cuba in March. My mom died in January so we can attach stress to that for sure.
Questions: I am trying metro gel and have tried cortisone in the past and they all make me so dry and scaly. I, unfortunately, pick on that skin - I can't help it, I have an obsession with peeling skin. (I'm sorry for the immaturity of that for someone who is 57.) I have tried to wear gloves but cannot help myself. So, my question is does everyone believe that it is the worst thing for me to do - is it making it worse for me to pick on it.
Second, the tetracycline was working great until I tried to lessen the dose and it got a little bad so I didn't worry about it. However, I must have left it too long as now I am in a full-blown flare-up and back to the 2x2 a day tetracycline. I am also trying the metro gel for the first time. When I first tried it I found the stinging too much but after a few days that has calmed down but should it sting? Has anyone else had any experience with changing their tetracycline dosage? I'm hoping this is all it is. I did start weightlifting in the last few weeks as well, could this be causing it? I would hate to give up my exercise program.
Thanks for all the great info - really appreciate this.
